The Red Shed

This was a wonderful option for staying in the Matamata area. It's very conveniently located, with comfortable accommodation for the whole family. There's a pool table that the kids enjoyed playing with. The friendly hosts provided some breakfast food options and have alpacas out back that we could feed. We didn't stay for very long but it was great.

This isn't a negative point really, but the place is one big open room (apart from the bathroom). It's just a bit strange.

A beautiful area with parklands outside the window. We loved feeding the animals. She was very kind to offer me GF options. Thank you very much.

From the moment we arrived, the Red Shed was amazing! The location can’t be beat. It was incredibly quiet with the sound of birds in the morning being the only sound we heard all night long, and yet it was 5 minutes drive to Matamata to get some food and supplies. The place was large and had lots of amenities including a kitchenette, pool table, games, and a TV with streaming services. I don’t describe hotels as “spotless” too often but that is the best word for this place. Maria was absolutely lovely, offering to help at any time if something went awry. And of course, the alpacas and sheep were an excellent addition to the staff!

Maria was an amazing host. Great with communication. Our flight was delayed and we didn’t get in until 1am. I let Maria know and she turned the heat and lights on for us so it was super cosy and toasty on arrival. We are a family of 2A & 5K and there was heaps of room. Beds were super comfy. Pool table was a hit with all of us. Alpacas and sheep feeding was also a big hit. Supplied breakfast was great and if you want anything more substantial town is not far away at all. It is in such a beautiful area. Kids were disappointed that we weren’t staying longer. We will be back.

Our family of four stayed for two nights to attend the Hobbiton Banquet and had a lovely stay with Maria. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, has a spacious living area and lovely beds. There is really everything you need for a comfortable stay and Maria is very warm and welcoming. The little extras like yoghurt, muffins and bread were much appreciated and our teen kids loved feeding the alpacas each morning and playing pool of an evening. Maria also offers transportation to and from Hobbiton which meant that we could all relax and enjoy a drink at the banquet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A washing machine and dryer are always appreciated when travelling with a family.
