"Very good bungalow, exceptionally good 5-day private jungle tour with a problem on the first night."

9.0

- Bungalow about 60 square meters. It is a small house with 2 rooms and 2 beds. - Quiet There is only one bungalow. Located outside and not near the noisy center or a noisy mosque. - Comfortable double bed -Friendly female manager organized the 5-day private jungle tour, advised me (group or private) and answered all my questions. I didn't have to do anything. - Small kitchen with good food in a beautiful location by a small pond. - Drinking water available - Female manager went on a short hike with me on the first day. - Female manager speaks good English and can organize a private taxi to Medan. - Breakfast at 5:30 a.m. is possible if you ordered a private taxi to Medan at 6 a.m. - Good 5-day private jungle tour If you want to do something that will stay in your memory for the rest of your life, you should do the jungle tour. The longer the better, but exhausting. On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th day I didn't see any other tourists. If you are not a 25 year old strong young man, I recommend the private jungle tour. Then you can go at your own pace and don't have to adjust to others about speed, route or breaks. - Good food on the jungle tour, I didn't get any stomach problems. - Friendly guide and 2 friendly guide assistants - Guide spoke good English. - You should bring: Waterproof shoes if you are doing it for more than 3 days. You can buy them up to size 42 in Bukit Lawang. I walked along the river for 2 days with my sturdy flip-flops. Most importantly: You should walk with 2 sticks. The guide gave me 2 bamboo sticks. Without these sticks I would have fallen in the river several times a day (very slippery stones, strong current). Rain poncho, which the guide can buy for you in Bukit Lawang. Sun hat Closed shoes: sneakers or hiking boots Thin long pants (no heavy, tight and thick blue jeans) Any medication you might need (diarrhea, antibiotics for infected wounds, insect repellent, paracetamol, Micropur Forte for drinking water to be on the safe side, ...

- Problem with a guide assistant on the first night One of the two guide assistants (smoker) had been coughing the whole first night so I couldn't sleep. The next morning, I was pretty upset. The following nights this guide assistant didn't sleep near me anymore and I could sleep well. If there hadn't been a problem with the coughing guide assistant on the first night, I would have given a rating of 10. - No shop nearby where you can buy something. - One night there was no WiFi, another day it was terribly slow. But luckily, I had an Indonesian SIM card for my tablet PC (hotspot) so this wasn't a problem for me.

5 stars is not enough to rate our experience! We had a really great time at Magpie homestay. The accomodation is pretty, comfortable, clean, and surrounded by a very beautiful and private tropical garden. The host will cater to your every need, from transportation to local activities and offers delicious homemade meals. We also booked a day-long trek with them and it was perfect, the guide and his assistant did everything they could for us to have the best experience in the forest (and we did!). If you want to discover a bit more the tourist part of the village you will have to walk a little to reach it (or use a tuktuk), the path is easy to follow and you'll be able to get a good view of the area. The entrance of the park is a short walk from Magpie.

"A perfect stay with a lovely host"

10.0

We have been travelling through Asia for 5 months and this was our favourite place. The owner Asniar is such a nice person and a superb cook. Anything we asked for she could help us with. Our kids helped her with cooking and she also took the time to bake a cake with them. We liked it so much, we decided come back a week later and stay there again for 5 nights. I would highly recommend.

The area looks like a botanical garden or park: many trees, flowers, plants, a small lake. I had at my disposal a house with a private cooking area, a shower/toilet, a large room and a bedroom. The kitchen had the necessary utensils and a gas stove. The rooms have a wardrobe, a table, a coffee table, a sofa and two beds. There was a lot of space for me. There was also a table outside the house in front of the entrance. The hosts are very friendly and helped with many of my questions regarding the organization of my trip. While I lived there I ordered breakfast, lunch, tea, coffee there. In my opinion, this is a great place to stay, one of the best places I have ever lived while traveling.

"The most comfortable, convenient and spacious stay!"

10.0

This is a MUST STAY if you come to Bukit Lawang, especially if you’re here long term! I stayed here for two weeks (WITH A ONE YEAR OLD BABY) and these are the things I love about this place! : 1. This has been the most comfortable stay I’ve had in my many years of travelling. Room is cleaned very often, laundry room (fully equipped up to detergent) is available at all times, cooking facilities is clean and equipped, food made freshly and upon request and delivered to room (if required)… it’s much better than home! Haha 2. The owner is a very lovely lady who has travelled and worked abroad quite a bit, so she is very understanding about the needs and requirement of her guests. I came here with a friend with a baby. Our mealtimes and food (Very delicious by the way) requests were sometimes different but she managed to cater to us with a smile always. Even my baby loves her food! She always took an extra step to care for us. Whenever we mentioned something wrong with our health, she would immediately suggest or bring some medicine. Very important ; She NEVER forced or pushed us to take any touristy trip from her, not even trekking. She was also VERY HONEST about how things are done here, and suggested various other cafes or accommodations when requested. She didn’t sell her place or activity and she made us feel so free - truly like a family member who just wanted us to have a good time - something you rarely find when travelling to touristy areas. 3. The location is right in the middle of the village. My one year old always has something to do here. Everyday we see geese, cows, birds, squirrels and other animals within walking distance to this accomodation. There are a few fish ponds and we’re allowed to feed the fishes as well. The house is set in the midst of a garden, so our view from the window is always green and you hear and see birds chirping All the time. The river is also within walking distance and you have a few choices to go to.

"My family extended our stay because we loved the scenery and our friendly, helpful hosts."

10.0

The host is an amazing cook and offers delicious breakfast to order and other meals for purchase. The grounds are beautiful, and it was helpful to have cooking facilities and a washing machine.

Some might find the distance from town inconvenient, but it makes for better scenery and is not a problem if you like to walk.

Magpie Homestay was a wonderful accommodation for visiting Bukit Lawang. The host was exceptionally kind and caring. She prioritized our comfort and enjoyment. The food offered at the Homestay was very good. They also offer orangutang trekking, rafting, and other fun activities. Overall we highly recommend Magpie Homestay if you are looking for a local accommodation that is comfortable and a great value.
