Cathedral Quarter Hotel - Derby

Location was great and very near where I wanted to be.

This was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away but it was far from that, I've had better accommodation at Butlins. Customer service was dreadful, they didn't respond to emails or messages. Hotel was dirty and covered in a layer of dust, there was even dust on the room side tables. There was no housekeeping service so you had overflowing bins, no tea/coffee replenishment, no clean glasses or mugs. I had to go out and buy milk and teabags. I eventually got tea/milk replenished but the milk in the carton tasted off so I bought my own milk. Curtain pulls were broken so you had to pull across very heavy curtains which were full of dust. I have COPD so this environment was not good for my breathing, The bedside lamp and what looked like a bogey on it. The lift was out of order, I'm disabled &having to go up/down the stairs with my luggage, a stick and a bag was hard going. The shower was mouldy and there were long black hairs in it. The toilet had mildew under the back rim. Water came out of the tap in short bursts and the kettle was too big for the sink so you could only fill it with a little water. The bed only had a single very thin duvet in a almost double duvet cover. The room was cold even with the oil filled radiator. I had to go out and buy a hot water bottle and a jumper because there were no blankets. Breakfast was poor - a sausage, half a piece of bacon, half a burnt tomato , spoonful of mushrooms and a strange way of presenting fried eggs. There was no choice of how you wanted the egg. Juice was in kiddie cartons, only thing that was acceptable was the toast. On my 2nd morning the wait person removed my toast plate while I was buttering and eating the toast - very rude. The breakfast plate should be placed on the table for the guest to swap plates. The whole experience ruined my weekend and I left a day early and had to buy an additional single ticket as I had advanced single booked for the following morning.

This a pretty bad hotel

Lift was broken, breakfast was terrible - badly made, and the bread for toast was mouldy, the bathroom was tiny and dirty

Room was spacious, clean, well equipped and kept up to date.

The lift was out of order so had to walk up 3 flights of stairs with my case

Delightfully historic building in the Cathedral quarter. Excellently placed for the Museum of Industry, and the Art Gallery.

Nothing to dislike.

I did not have breakfast.

The hotel needs a lift.

There were tired bits in the room- the shower area needed redoing
