Cathedral Quarter Hotel - Derby

Decent hotel and a very good price for this time of the year. Hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is close to all the local shops and restaurants, and the hotel building is exceptional.

The room was a bit on the damp side , while also there was a wardrobe right beside the bed which made no sense., as it limited access.

Corridors smelt a little fusty and found an earring which didn’t belong to us so room hadn’t been cleaned the best.

The location was excellent. However, the room was dirty and had bugs and we had to change rooms.

Cleanliness, lack of staff to assist. Fire escape was obstructed with house keeping equipment and laundry bags.

The breakfasts were satisfactory cooked to order with sufficient options - gluten free was catered for. The staff were very helpful. As a group of friends gathering for the weekend the lounge was a comfortable space for us to congregate. A good location to explore Derby

The historic building was diminished by downstairs rooms that were dark and dingy, in need of maintenance and updating. Worn woodwork, net curtain hanging off, basin plug not working.

3rd floor room, lift broken. Breakfast, no continental option and english breakfast pre-cooked. Surprised its rated 4 star

Location and it would’ve been great if one of the two lifts have been working but they weren’t and as one of us is registered disabled it was very difficult to get up and down the stairs.

The lifts weren’t working and there were never stuff on reception and when we checked out and I wanted to complain and request a refund there were no stuff available. I sent an email to the Hotel asking for a partial refund and got no reply.

Very well located for central Derby, the Cathedral and Town Centre, the hotel has decent sized rooms, some with a view of the cathedral. It's in a lovely old building, what used to be the Magsitrate's Court I believe, although some of the old glory is fading now. The staff were very helpful generally, and particularly when I checked in. I was initially allocated a room not much larger than the double bed with a view to a rear service area and a/c units. However, when I asked for a different room this was quickly sorted out without argument.

The building is beautiful, the breakfast was cooked well and the staff were excellent. The choice of breakfast was adequate with a cooked breakfast, cereals, toast, spreads and juices available. We had a problem with the tvs in the room and this was dealt with swiftly. The bed was very comfortable, the coffee machine was good and the choice of tea and coffee was good. The bath was a jacuzzi bath and had a tv in the tiles which would have been lovely and relaxing but sadly, neither of them worked.

Sadly, it needs an upgrade in the rooms as our suite had the tv propped on the two bedside tables and the table from the living room was put in their place on one side of the bed. Drinks in the living had to be placed on the floor as there was nowhere else to put them if you were sitting and watching tv. The carpet had stains on it and the bathroom was dusty and could have done with a good clean. The stairs were awfully creaky and the curtains above the bed hung at different heights and you had to duck to go under them to get in the bed. The shower was a waterfall type but had seen better days and the water flowed oddly, and the grout was black in places between the floor tiles. The suite would be beautiful if a little tlc was applied.
