IMThe location was perfect for an early morning flight. It was clean.
Shortly before arriving I received a very unpleasant message, all in capitals: !!!! PLEASE NOTE IF YOU CHECK IN 1 SEC BEFORE CHECK-IN TIME OR ARE FOUND STANDING AROUND THE PROPERTY WAITING, WHICH THE NEIGHBOURS DO WANT, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE PROPERTY WITH NO REFUND. IF YOU CHECK OUT MORE THAN 1 MINUTE PAST THE CHECK-OUT, YOU WILL BE CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL FLAT RATE OF £20. I messaged the owner about why I had received such an unwelcoming message - apparently previous guests have ‘broken the trust’. I felt like I was being accused of misdemeanours before I even set foot in the place. An automated message saying similar things about ‘heavy financial penalties’ plays as soon as you set foot in the door. I have genuinely never felt less welcome anywhere in my life. Also, to describe the property as luxury is misleading. It’s very clean, but pretty basic and sparsely decorated. The walls are paper thin so I barely slept with the noise of other guests going to the loo etc. They weren’t noisy, it’s just the house isn’t well suited to multiple occupancy. Also, there was an overpowering smell from the synthetic plug in air freshener - the chemicals set off my asthma. Anyway, safe to say I wouldn’t stay again. I occasionally do air bnb myself and my number one aim is to make my guests feel welcome. This host absolutely doesn’t take this approach!
