Spirit Of The River Lodge

The place is filled with love and tranquility. From the moment I checked in, I noticed the warmth of Claudia and Rudi to make sure we were happy. The firepit, the BBQ, and the wine for dinner were just amazing. On top of that, Tupac the llama-dog was so fun. He surely contributes to making everyone happy by being such as lovely pet. I highly recommend the Spirit of the River lodge.

My upstairs suite was absolutely stunning looking over a beautiful river and the Andes. The bed was incredibly comfortable and breakfast was very generous with the best coffee I've had in Peru thus far. I absolutely loooooved the decor and the bathroom was beautiful, large and filled with beautiful indoor plants. Highly recommend Spirit of the lodge for anyone looking to spend some time in the sacred valley.

Lovely location (scenic and rustic), and the owners are wonderful hosts. They cooked and served us a delicious dinner after 10pm the first night when our flight got delayed into Cusco. The lodge itself has a very nice cottage vibe to it, and it was apparently built by the owners/hosts from the ground up, so they deserve a lot of praise for that. The rooms were comfortable with plush rugs and comfortable beds. The hosts also helped us bring our heavy suitcases up the stairs since one of the rooms was on the second level. Tupac the llama in the yard was delightful and a big hit!

The bathrooms are a little detached from the room in that you have to go across the porch next to the room door, which is open to the elements (and any prying eyes). There was no hot water in the bathroom sink. My wife and daughter both had to shower with cold water because they forgot to turn on the hot water pump on the second evening. This should not require human intervention really, and certainly my wife and daughter were both very unhappy about it! There was no trash can in the room, and only a space heater (no AC). There was a large fern that was rather awkwardly placed near the bed. The cash-only requirement for room and incidental charges, though specified up front, was a pain since we had to carry extra cash or go find an ATM. Finally, although the dinner on the first night was delicious and most welcome, some indication of the price up front would have been nice.

We were at first hesitant to book since the property didn’t have any reviews, but after staying one night, we now know it fully deserves its 5/5 TripAdvisor rating. The room was large, spotlessly clean, and impeccably designed. The king bed was comfortable. The shower pressure was strong and the hot water came instantly. The area was super quiet at night. The host owner was incredibly kind and hospitable. She brought a delicious breakfast for just two at 6:30am. Cherry on top was Tupac, the pet llama who is basically a big dog who just wants pets all the time.

Beware there’s no sign but the Booking.com/Google Maps address is correct and you just need to knock on the wooden gate. A sign with the property name outside would have helped us find it more confidently.
