Gorgeous Cozy Cottage with a heritage feel, walks, pubs & wood burner

Beautiful cottage, location was gorgeous. Lovely homely touches were great. Host allowed us to check in a couple of hours early to drop off our luggage before we headed out for the day. The upstairs was lovely and warm even on a very cold night.

Firstly, for context, it was an exceptionally cold weekend and temperatures reaches -5 on our first night I contacted the host by text on the morning of our check in to ask if we could have access a couple of hours earlier than planned. She responded more than 3 hours later to say that it was fine and also that the main heating source for the downstairs - the log burner - had been condemned 4 days earlier, so we couldn't use it. I was assured though that heating "is amazing". Reader, it was not. The one radiator downstairs was not powerful enough to heat the living room and kitchen. In addition to being very cold we found the TV did not connect to the internet, even when the router was reset. The property doesn't have access to anything other than Netflix even when it works there is no terrestrial or freeview TV , so this was tantamount to the TV being unavailable. I text the host about the ongoing problems, but got no response. We found ourselves wearing hats and gloves under a duvet watching TV on my phone propped up by a box. The following morning I contacted the host again about the heating (requested that she provide a heater) and TV and also, as we found out, that the coffee machine needed descaling and wouldn't work until it was. After googling how to do this, I learned that there were no descaling tablets so we had to go without. The host gave me a call 14 hours after my initial contact to say that she was going to put the heating on all day for us, connect the tv to her property next door and leave us some instant coffee. Apparently she can control the heating remotely, but it is on a motion sensor so switches off if no one moves. The second night was definitely warmer, as the heating was on all day and we took further measures plugging draughts. but certainly not cosy. I found the communication with the host (who, unknown to us, was just next door) quite poor.

Not knowing that the fire in the front room was not working meant we couldn’t prepare with extra blankets and a heat source for the downstairs- the central heating made the upstairs really toasty but just didn’t heat the downstairs very well so we were cold

Lovely location with own parking space. Smart TV with Netflix. Well equipped kitchen. Good pubs les than 10 minutes walk away.

A second bed-side light in the main bed-room, otherwise no significant issues.
