Central Hills Cat Ba

The location: green, away from the busy town. Clean. Cheap food and drinks. Owner seems relaxing.

The pool is smaller than the online photos. Too many mosquitoes and the staff has not done much to help/warn guests about it. Mattress was really really hard even for Viets. Tacky and weird heart shape decoration around the pool. The check out room price was slightly higher than the confirmed booking but we noticed quite late. Rather a miscommunication thing than them doing that on purpose I feel. The rental bikes were all in bad condition but that’s the case everywhere in Cat Ba.

The food isn't great and there are basically no options for good food in walking distance There is no bar, all the bottles that look like spirits are recycled bottles filled with homemade rice wine It's a little far from the main town, taxis are quite expensive (same price as renting a motorbike for a full day) so if you get a motorbike its no problem! Check your bike before agreeing to rent it, as the one I was given was faulty and also the petrol was completely empty

Super cute place between the mountains and nature. The host Gecko is very friendly. They serve tasty fried noodles and coffee.

The location was great, 10-15 min scoot into town, away from the noise and “touristy” centre. You’re literally amongst the locals and the nature of Cat Ba. Gecko is an excellent host, the restaurant pumps out delicious food. You’re more likely to rub shoulders with locals/Vietnamese travellers than other backpackers/foreigners.

Beds are rock hard.

It is beautiful in the middle of the mountains with a beautiful swimming pool.

The food was not tasty as we was expecting and what we saw on other reviews . The beef was really hard . Night time its a place for the locals people to come eat and drink . Look like they have a different menu for us the foreigners and the locals . If they do karaoke its can be very very loud and it very hard to sleep after a long day . They will turn off the music a 22:00 . The rental motorcycle price was more expensive than some other customers before they rented. The motorcycle break was not working well at all it was very scary when we realized they was no break! And he gave the motorcycle with no gazoline inside but it is far from the litle city so we was scare because he told us dont worry gasoline sand is just near ok ok ! But we couldn’t find anything till we arive to the small city. Of course the day trip in Halong the price will be different for everyone. Inside the room it’s very verry simple the bed mattress is very hard made from mousse. The room should me more clean that it was . No fridge inside. If you want to have a small drink and eat at the hotel restaurant be ready to be in the middle of the local people who can speak very loud and looking at you all time . It make us bit uncomfortable So we preferred to stay in the room . We was really expecting to enjoy in this hotel after a stressful busy time in Hanoi but we couldn’t find what we was expecting. This is our personal feelings we had here . It can be perfect for some other people . We came back to Hanoi one day earlier. Sad we couldn’t enjoy there.

Super value for money! Owner/manager Gecko was so friendly and accommodating. Gave us lots of tips and was always ready to help us with whatever we needed. Nice pool, room was spacious enough. We were even allowed to pick fruits in the garden.. and eat as much as we liked, for free! :) Garden in the back was quite relaxing with hammocks and lots of chairs. Basic Vietnamese food selection at the restaurant but good and filling enough! Pretty cheap too!

The fake maple tree and heart thingy by the pool! My friends and I all think that it’s ruining the whole nature-y and homey vibe of the place.

Beautiful place and very friendly and helpful people. Enjoyed our perfect stay on Cat Ba among nature!
