We stayed in this hotel in April and after we checked out they charged my card £150 which related to a smoking fee. We stayed in a room with a private courtyard and were not informed at any point that smoking was prohibited in that outdoor area. There was no signage in the room or courtyard, nor were we advised of this policy during check-in or at the time of check-out. We stayed for two nights, and even after the first night, no member of staff raised this issue with us. Additionally, when checking out, we were not informed of any issue or that a charge would be applied. Not long after check out they charged my card with no prior notice. If a fine is being issued, customers should be given reasonable notice to pay it and arrange payment fairly but this was not the case. I contacted the hotel about the issue as soon as I got home, but my email was completely ignored. I raised a dispute with Revolut, who ultimately helped me recover the money. This was easily the worst customer service experience I have ever had. The policy is not made clear to guests, and the lack of transparency is definitely intentional, making it far too easy for customers to be caught out and fined.
