Black Swan Inn

A short stop at The Black Swan, our room was of a high standard and spotlessly clean. Greeted by friendly staff on arrival and made to feel welcome. The food in the restaurant was a cut above normal pub fare, very high quality, an imaginative menu and excellent service. The beers are kept well too. We opted for the full cooked breakfast which was lovely as well. Highly recommended and we will no doubt return again.

Beautiful location, clean, comfortable room, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring! The staff were amazing, so friendly and welcoming, we would definitely stay again. Loved the cozy pub, sat by the fire with a beer. Food was excellent!

We chose The Black Swan Inn based on its rating, but our stay was unfortunately disappointing. From arrival, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. Staff interactions were awkward and lacked basic warmth, which made us feel uncomfortable from the outset. We were also pressed to decide on dinner and breakfast immediately, and when we asked for time to settle in first, this seemed to be poorly received. The room itself had cleanliness issues: cups were visibly dirty but cleaned easily in the sink, and there were dead flies above the bed and in the bathroom that had not been removed. The room was advertised as having a bath, yet a sign on arrival stated it could not be used due to flooding downstairs, which should have been disclosed in advance. There was also conflicting information about check-out times — the website stated 11:00am, but we were told 10:00am at the desk. We stayed for dinner and enjoyed the food, however service was inattentive, with long waits and little engagement. We also noticed inconsistent treatment of guests, as another table was offered additional room amenities (tea, milk, coffee) when paying, while we were not. A 20% service charge was automatically added (£10 in our case), which felt excessive given the level of service provided. While we understand staffing pressures in hospitality, basic cleanliness, clear communication, and consistent customer service should still be expected. We both wish we hadn't bothered.
