"Very good. We will visit again."

8.0

We chose this hotel to stay overnight because it was in the right place to break our journey from Manchester to the north of Scotland. It looks as if it was once the village pub in a small village in a very rural location east of Carlisle, but quite close to the M6. However, it has been very well modernised with several very comfortable hotel rooms above the pub with all the facilities available in chain hotels such as Premier Inn and Travelodge but with more charm. The food offering was traditional Pub Grub and well executed, and the staff were nice. Free WiFi was available.

There weren't any significant problems, other than the slightly disconcerting fact that the TV set in our room did not have freeview (I presume the location is too remote for normal broadcast TV and they have to rely on the internet). Fortunately I was able to remember my login for the BBC iPlayer otherwise this might have been a problem.

"I probably won't stay in a pub with rooms again. Noise from bar audible but not too loud"

6.0

Location ideal, close to my days activities. Clean and been upgraded recently, nice decor. Car parking in pub carpark, close to rooms.

Needs Bedside tables, bedside lights, comfy chair to sit in, Instructions provided to work the TV,( only games available) No fire instruction in bedroom. The plug in wash hand basin didn't work, the plug needed to be lifted out of hole, there's a chance to drop jewellery down the hole. When i arrived I was surprised to go into bar, then out the back door, then round to another door and stairs up to bedrooms.

"Location is good. Steer clear if wanting anything more."

2.0

Location.

The hotel called me en route. Closing bar and hotel at 1930 pm. Nothing on Booking.com to indicate that the bar and restaurant closes at this time. As a travelling diabetic, this was far from ideal as I'd fasted before arriving. It went downhill after this. Bar didn't even remain open. Room hadn't been turned down properly and was full of dust and fluff from the previous guest. Trousers and some underwear in the wardrobe, ceiling and walls laden with spider webs and dust. It clearly hadn't been cleaned for a while. Water in the kettle, again clearly hadn't been turned over from prior guests as this was not fresh water.

"A pleasant stop over on our way to Scotland."

7.0

A convenient location with friendly staff and good service.

A greater choice of options on the menu for both breakfast and dinner. The menus on the website offer more choice and are misleading.
