We arrived early on the sleeper bus and the room was going to be ready from 11 which was good.

The person who checked us in and out of the property was blunt and disinterested. The room was okay. We were just staying one night so it was suitable but I wouldn’t like to stay more than that.

The staff are exceptionally kind and accommodating. Stéphane (the manager, who is from France) was able to book me a second night on the spot, find the best breakfast (La Boulange, a French bakery-café) in a charming little lane full of old shop houses. steps away from the guest house, recommended a hardware shop where I bought a plug adapter for my laptop, and also provided great conversation. The guesthouse is located near the end of an unpaved, pot-holed dirt road which at first put me off a bit until I realized it has a unique rural charm even though it's steps from downtown Pakse. Except for what I describe in the next section, the nights are very quiet and I mostly slept well. The open-air dining room is great for working on the computer. Breakfast wasn't available during the dates I booked because they were short-staffed, but Stéphane worked for years as a pastry chef and he knows food, so I expect his homemade bread is good.

The harmless but bad-tempered dog that belongs to the family who own the guesthouse. Luckily I had earplugs, and I highly recommend them, because that dog went on a very long barking and howling spree in the middle of the night. I had to open my window to yell at it. On my 2nd night, several old local men sat for many hours at a table in the family home's courtyard right behind my window, drank alcohol and got progressively more drunk and loud. That courtyard is the worst aspect of this otherwise great little guesthouse. The mosquito screen in my room (A1) almost fell out because it's missing a hinge and the remaining one is loose.

The room was small but functional; the double bed was comfortable and the air conditioning helped keep the room cool. Lockable cupboards so you could keep your belongings safe. The owner was very friendly and did our laundry for a reasonable price. WiFi was very strong which was great. Free hot and cold water available from the dispenser in the hallway much appreciated. Location was good, less than 5 minutes walk to the main road with plenty of restaurants and shops. There is an excellent boulangerie nearby too.

Sadly there was a bit of a cleanliness problem in our room. When we arrived there were a lot of mosquitoes but managed to swat most of them. During our stay we saw at least 5 cockroaches including one that climbed onto our bed during the night and woke us up. There were also gecko droppings around the bathroom which I cleaned up myself. At night the neighbourhood dogs starting howling quite loudly from around 9pm until the early hours, so it was quite noisy when trying to get to sleep.

Room is clean, enough space, AC, all good 👍🏻 wifi is ok. Hostess is nice, she can help you with your questions about trip.
