The George Inn

Breakfast had to be pre-ordered. Orders were from a selection of dishes. I ordered scrambled egg and smoked salmon. It came with one slice of toast. The egg and the toast were both cold. The scrambled egg was overcooked and hard. There was no breakfast bar, so you could not have anything extra like more toast or a croissant or fruit .

The food in the restaurant was disappointing and the service was extremely slow. The bathroom could do with an update. Taps difficult to turn off. Dripped very badly.

The only disappointments were on arrival the young lady serving us could smile more and be a bit more happy to accept guests, the bed pillows were hollow fibre and disappointing for that star grade property and the presentation of the tea and coffee at breakfast as it wasn’t a table service offer and what was on the table was just a teapot which would serve two people max when there were 14 of us in the restaurant. No butter or condiments with or offered with the breakfast so had to ask and wait but did kindly receive. Other than that it was a lovely stay

We have visited and stayed at the George Inn for many years, and are very fond of it. The welcome was as warm as ever and the food both at lunch and breakfast very good. My room was clean and the bed very comfortable.

When I have stayed previously I have usually stayed in the outside garden rooms - which are fabulous. This time I was in a room inside the pub and had a less positive experience. The room was very spacious, quaint to look at and clean - but there was no en suite shower room. Instead there was a claw tooth bath on a platform in the room and the toilet was just behind the bath. This felt very exposed particularly because the bedroom window looked out over the road through the village - so you had to keep closing the curtains. There was no handheld shower attachment in the bath so the only way to wash your hair was by ducking under in the bath. The bath was ridiculously slow to fill and there was a very hot tap and a warm tap - no cold water.

A pleasant place to stay for one or two nights and a good choice of local beers.

Not a overly large lunch and dinner choice and breakfast choice also limited to simple hot or cold and juice with no options on cereal or fruit and yoghurts etc for starters.

Nice clean comfortable room. Helpful staff. Lovely breakfast.
