"Historic hotel with friendly staff."

8.0

Very friendly staff who showed me to the door. The hotel is very historic (I think 16th Century) and there's a cosy bar area. The rooms are always clean and the beds comfortable. Buckden is a lovely historic village and it's right by the A1. Continental breakfast is cereals and toast which is enough for me.

The decor is a bit dated and the furniture in the rooms a bit tired. It's a challenge with sloping floors and wonky door frames to find a solution. I hope as they grow they invest in upgrading some rooms. The WIFI only works in the bar area.

"convenent location for a dog friendly visit to see family"

5.0

The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful you couldn't ask for better. Dog friendly which is also a huge thing for us. The location is also great with free parking. The food is really good, good portions, freshly made, tasty and a good selction This hotel is value for money but not overly warm and cosy, it needs a bit of tlc although the staff were great we were a little bit dissappointed with the lack of any atmosphere. We stayed here a couple of ears ago when it was just under neew management and the renovations were just starting, I think we perhaps had higher hopes for it.

It was a bit cold, we had to put the electric heater on in our room - we were thank ful there was one already in there. The room was tired and not overly clean around the edges The bathroom looked to be partly renovated but we had flaking plaster and mould on one of the walls where it had perhaps been painted before the plaster had dried in a cold unventilated room. When we left the bar area after breakfast there was no one else around and when we returned to check out the place was in darkness and there was no one to give the room keys to or to have a chat with. I would have discussed these points at the time if I could have found a member of staff.
