Master Builder's House Hotel

Needed a quick break and the Master Builder’s House had been on the bucket list for a while. From booking, subsequent contact and arriving at reception, the service was excellent. Very friendly, welcoming staff. The excellent, friendly service continued:- through lunch, lighting the fire in the lounge, dinner and breakfast the following morning. The only downside, and a BIG downside, circumstances meant we only had one night here. My fault not theirs. The room? 4poster bed, very comfortable when I’d climbed up into it, harbour view, took delight just watching leaves fall from the oak tree.

The Master Builders House was the perfect location for visiting the New Forest. We enjoyed lovely long walks in the forest with our dogs, admiring the beautiful autumnal light and colours, the pigs (out for pannage), donkeys and iconic ponies. The Forest was full of the most wonderful mushrooms and fungi, and incredible peaceful. We walked across the spit to Hurst Castle one day, took our binoculars to watch the birds on the marshland, then came back via the ferry. We absolutely loved the hotel. It was perfect for us and our two collie x dogs. It’s very restful, and after a long day adventuring, walking, enjoying the history, and sightseeing in the New Forest we scoffed down our lovely dinners - kind, thoughtful staff and beautiful food. My partner is coeliac and they coped brilliantly with ensuring everything was gluten free with no risk of cross contamination. The setting is beautiful, and every morning we wandered with the dogs for a morning constitutional down The Hard through the village to the water, before breakfast. It is SUPER dog friendly, full of dog-loving visitors and staff. We loved it and will definitely go back. It was so easy, informal, friendly and relaxing with just right amount of comfortable luxury for us and our two scruffy dogs. Would definitely recommend - especially in the Autumn

Wonderful location. At this time of the year it is a very peaceful place. Good food - dietary needs satisfied without any fuss. Staff are all friendly and helpful. It's a hotel full of character as expected, given the age of the main part of the building. Log fires, good view of the river. Lots of walks available in vicinity. Close to Motor Museum and Exbury Gardens.

"Deluxe Double" Bedroom could have done with comfier chairs and a shower. However, I had not specified our needs when I booked so not really the hotel's fault. We knew it's a quirky building, being the age it is! (That is part of the charm).

Lovely location. Beautiful views and walks. Room was a good size, clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom a little tired and could do with a little TLC but overall we were very happy with the accommodation and would definitely stay again. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate in Henry’s pub in the evening. Both food and service were excellent.

We had the most fantastic wedding at The Master Builders. From start to finish it could not of been better. The staff were amazing ( especially Lizzie) the food delicious and the location is second to none. If you are looking for a venue or a weekend away I can not recommend highly enough

No plaster big enough to fix this place,food under and over cooked,disinterested staff,have stayed here so many times over last 15 years inc xmas and new year breaks,rented the cottages few times too,but never again.

Location excellent with great atmosphere rooms great. Food menu could be better And doesn’t reflect the website! Staff are wonderful, just so relaxing and helpful. A little expensive but worth the money, just a little disappointed with the food dinner menu. Will definitely return in new year. Michael Canis

Wonderful autumn break in a glorious location. Staff were attentive and helpful throughout our stay and we will be returning for a longer visit.

Lovely location and would have liked time to explore but we were attending a wedding elsewhere.

Room was very small and not lit very well, hair dryer blew up, breakfast was OK. Wasn't impressed that coffee other than in a coffee pot was extra.
