"Poor"

3.0

The hosting was amazing very welcoming. Breakfast was amazing. Gardens and location stunning

But the room was extremely poorly decorated and nothing like we were expecting. Very poor. Room was amish mash of different eras, textiles and especially the rugs on the floor. There is no slip mat for the bath and no shower curtain. You have to hold the shower head to perform that task, which made it quite a slip hazard. The room felt extremely cold, so cold we had to sleep in our clothing. The tea and coffee facilities were extremely poor. Room required a make over to fit with the period of the house. Pricing for meals was not as advertised, increased on our arrival. Bed was standard double, not four poster and room was very small. Basically, the room and board are not as advertised. Very disappointed 😞 it's such a shame as location and house is stunning. But the decor fixtures and fittings really let it down

"Very welcoming a home from home"

The property is just what I expected from the description it’s 16th century charm is evident everywhere The owners are very welcoming and can’t do enough for you And the breakfast was excellent, couldn’t fault anything Would stay here again

Only slight hiccup was the lights sometimes didn’t work but did not detract from the overall experience

"An experience not to be missed"

A pleasant experience to stay in this grand old house with all original features. Amy was the best host with fresh scones, lighting fires in the beautiful garden and welcome drinks. Good place to explore the Lakes district by car

"A very unique experience in an amazing home owned by a lovely couple."

10.0

Where do you begin to explain just how amazing this 17th Century home is. From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by Philip and Amy who own The Great Hall which they now run as a bed and breakfast. We were served with cold wine and mint (from the garden)water and seated in the most amazing garden. Absolutely beautiful with every plant imaginable and seats dotted about in the shade for comfort. There are more gardens that wrap around the house. The house is seeped in years of history and culturally rich with print's, books and furnishings. Amy, who is a first class cook/hostess, kindly offered to cook us dinner on the day of our arrival and it truly was amazing. The breakfast was equally as good. We had private dining which made it even more special. Our four poster bed was just beautiful and extremely comfy. We wholeheartedly recommend The Great Hall and we shall certainly be returning. Thank you Amy and Philip for an amazing experience and for your warm hospitality.

Nothing, it was perfect. What is there to dislike in such a unique home.

"A lovely, welcoming, peaceful and relaxing place to stay."

10.0

Our arrival at the hall was wonderful as we felt very welcomed by Philip and Amy. She showed us around the hall and took us up to our bedroom, with its four poster bed, which proved to be very comfortable. Amy said that she wanted us to feel as if we were at home, which we did with the very relaxed atmosphere. All the meals, breakfast and evening meal, were cooked by Amy and were outstanding with very generous portions. You could, within reason, request whatever food you wanted and she would do her best to accommodate you. This was certainly the case when Amy discovered, via my wife, that it was my birthday and we had our dinner there that evening. Amy had gone out specially and bought a small birthday cake for me. The Hall is central to numerous places of interest and if you were going out for the day a take out lunch can also be provided. The hall gardens were beautifully maintained and you could enjoy them at any time of the day while you listened to the sound of the birds and had your tea / coffee / drinks, etc. It was an excellent three night break for us and just what we needed. Overall if you want to go somewhere peaceful and relaxing that is like home from home then this would be the place for you.

We are unable to find any negative comments about our stay. The fact that meals are served in the kitchen and everyone sits around one table might not suit everyone but considering you are in a 560 year old building we feel it adds to the character and ambiance of the surroundings.
