"Incredibly comfortable stay and welcoming hosts especially as I arrived so late."

Gorgeous bedroom. Extremely comfortable bed. Lovely hosts who are renovating the property. If all the accommodation is to this standard it will be fantastic.

The bedroom was directly above the bar.

"Extremely hospitable, local pub charm"

8.0

Under new management, who are clearly trying very hard to make guests as welcome as possible. We stayed for dinner and a chat with some of the other locals in the bar, then upstairs to the very comfortable rooms. They were kind enough to make us some breakfast too, even though we had to leave early the next morning. Conveniently located to the nearby Vobster Quay diving centre.

"Good people, good food, thanks Phil and Jo for making us feel welcome. The Henry's form Canada."

10.0

As booking said , breakfast wasn't offered here. It's a pub, they don't open until noon but Jo was willing to provide us with something if we wanted (after experiencing her cooking on the last day we were there, probably should have taken her offer). Phil provided us with tea and coffee first thing in the morning

I can't think of anything considering they are trying to turn a place around that has been let go for a while

"Lovely hosting family, will be nice when it's finished and running smoothly I'm sure"

4.0

The welcome we received was lovely, being done in the car park by the landlord. We were shown into the property and instantly up to the rooms but along the way we were told about all of the problems that existed with the premises. It seems to be the done thing at the moment, where an individual will go into a defensive stance and try and have an excuse why before even being asked. The downstairs and public bar was really nice, it had been renovated fairly recently and the staff and locals were very welcoming, being courteous and knowledgeable.

The rooms appeared to be recently decorated and on the surface looked modern and clean, however on closer inspection it was clear that a lot more detail was needed on the cleaning side. The pull cord in the bathroom was filthy, the sink had obviously not been cleaned since the last persons stay because of the hairs from shaving were still left on view. The soap in the dish had been used previously and not replaced. The shower had a lot of dirt around the bar for the shower head and the confusion regarding the shower instructions that were simply a pencil drawing stuck to the front of the unit were ridiculous. The room we stayed in had a TV but this did not give us a decent viewable picture. There were no facilities for making tea or coffee in the room or even just simply a bottle of water. Unfortunately the kitchen was one of the issues that the landlords were having. No open menu was available and we were given the option of cottage pie or chicken curry that would be made by the hosts. The food was really nice (I had the cottage pie) but I felt that if I’d been either vegetarian or vegan I would have been left feeling very hungry. Also being told that we were going to eat when it was ready and not when we were ready was a bit surprising. No breakfast available. The venue, I’m sure will be done well when finished but as it stands there is a huge difference between what you get and how much you pay. I really don’t feel that it was worth the £107 per room per night we paid.

"Comfortable and the venue will improve with time"

7.0

Jo and Phil had only ben here for a month and were doing a good job. The kitchen was not in full use but Jo had bought food for her bed and breakfast guests so we were able to have a meal. The room ws comfortable. The drinks were a bit pricey but a good selection. They are both very hardworking and am sure they will make a success of this business. We would stay again. They also accommadated our dog.

"Colins weekend adventure."

9.0

Lovely little rural Inn in a bucolic lo ation, American would love it as would Railway Historians as it close to the late lamented S&D line. An historic Abbey is only a few hundreds yards away. Very clean Inn and very comfortable bed. Good shower facility with steady flow of hot water. The owner were very welcoming and chatty.

The couple have only recently taken over and cooking facilities were not fully functioning , legacy from last owner, but I was still able to enjoy good meals there.

"Disappointing experience."

3.0

Location was great, bed was clean and comfortable and bathroom was clean. Clean towels and hosts were friendly.

The accommodation is above the pub. It needs a lot of TLC. There was a musty old smell in the place. The host said wifi doesn’t work. TV was 20inch small screen put in the window perhaps to catch signals but even then it didn’t work so evenings were boring without the TV or the wifi. There were no lamps on the bedside table. I class it as basic and cheap to buy. The furniture was a mish mash of old and Ikea stuff. There were 2 hairdryers but no iron. I think they listed iron as a facility. Lights were dim in the room. Toiletries included shower gel and soap only. No shampoo. No tea or coffee making facility. It’s a basic provision despite room being in a hotel/restaurant or a pub. Noise from the pub downstairs, piano playing, host tidying up late after closing late at night so couldn’t sleep despite being tired. The road is noisy. The walls are thin so you hear next door snoring loudly and every conversation downstairs. The place needs updating and fixing and host did say they have taken over recently and in the middle of refurbishing. I totally understand that it will take time but please be truthful on Booking.com or don’t advertise until you are fully operational or reduce the rate. Please don’t charge £96/night. You pay this for a decent accommodation with things fully working! I was highly disappointed, I didn’t say anything to the host as I was extremely exhausted from a long journey and work. I didn’t see the point as they couldn’t have changed things whilst I was there for 2 nights. My advice is to refurbish the rooms first and then advertise and bring the income in. Please don’t mislead people. I will not be staying again. I had very restless and disappointing experience. Very tiring. Please update your rooms and then the rate you charge is justified.
