The Cottage at Barkwith House

Firstly the cottage was cute & characterful. The bed was very comfortable. It was in a very central position.

The cottage could have been lovely but it needed some tlc especially the courtyard area which was in dire need of tidying up. Everything was overgrown and needed weeding. The plants in the pots were mainly all dead and the outside windowledges and around the door needed sweeping of thick cobwebs. The outside table was pretty but was covered in green moss, quite unusable. Inside was mainly clean but the microwave and fridge were dirty. The floor covering in bathroom where water splashed from shower needs replacing as it was pretty grim. The whole place is in dire need of some care & attention and seems very run down. There is a fine line line between shabby chic and just "shabby"! Such a shame as it could be so much better. Didn't see or hear from the owner at any point of our stay.

Great location for us, good price

I was only there for a single night, but the place was scrupulously clean, there were a couple of snacks and the makings for Tea and Coffee, an actual Roll Top Bath and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I love the original features of the cottage that had been preserved and place the place a real character. Kind of wish I had to stay longer but if i'm coming back to the area for work again I will actively try to stay here again.

It was a little hard to find the car park, but got there in the end.

Nice breakfast available if you wanted it. Fresh Strawberries, jam and Croissants. Milk tea, coffee etc. Loverly bath to relax in and cozy cottage feel throughout

It was warm, clean, very comfortable and perfect location for our family trip.
