"Brilliant location, challenging location. Needs a lot of attention"

4.0

The location was absolutely perfect. neighbourhood was lovely, nice bar loved being able to walk out the door and onto the beach every day. Cottage was extremely clean and cleaners obviously try their hardest for such a tiered cottage.

We were aware we were going to stay in an old traditional cottage, however, I don't feel they cottage gave an accurate description. The furnishings and décor was very dates and it showed, dated back to the 80's. Very worn and passed their best. Both stair cases were extremely steep and dangerous to use, we had to pass cases up though the hatch as you would putting stuff into a loft. Why would you still use steps like this in modern day? The couch has no stuffing left that we had to sit on the floor. The furniture didn't fit the rooms well and we spent all the time clambering over chairs or moving items such as lights and tables. The beds were horizontal into the slant of the roof, so we had to duck around the bed every time we were using the room. and a sofa bed with no room to open it out. We had to hold on to the button on the shower to make it work and the shower then clogged so had to keep a plunger int he shower and plunge the water way. The kitchen had good appliances however, very basic and well used accessories. We were aware there was no shops so brought plenty of food, however was so difficult to cook as the pots were bevelled with age and would not stand on the hob. There was no basics such as wooden spoons, casserole dishes, serving dishes and utensils. Cooking and moving around the the cottage was a struggle and we felt like we were having to make do and just get through it. This was a shame as we spent good money expecting to have the decent facilities. We had a fantastic holiday but the hotel was sadly a let down due to how uncomfortable and challenging the internal facilities were - especially the stairs. We would sit desperate for a pee so we didn't have to use the stairs to often. Thankfully the location made up for this.

The location was wonderful and a great base to explore the Moray coast The Pennan Inn, next door, when open served wonderful food.

The spiral staircase and very steep steps to the second bedroom are not for the fainthearted. The cottage is up for sale and feels tired and grubby. If you stay here, bring a couple of fold up chairs to sit on by the see. The cottage didn't have its own seating area.

Beautiful location, cottage was cosy and comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Everything was very clean and the beds were great. Upstairs bedroom is really pretty.

Blackout curtains might be an idea for the summer - we woke up a little bit earlier than we’d have liked!

Excellent setting . Quirky traditional cottage with atmosphere.

The only aspect not enjoyed were the very steep stairs to the upper bedroom !

"A lovely cottage in a remote location, if you like the sea, but certainly a summer location."

9.0

A really comfortable house, thankfully very warm, beautiful location, open the windows and hear the waves of the sea just outside.

The appearance of the outdoor paintwork, not a good first impression, the spiral staircase (if you have bad knees) the access road is not for the faint-hearted.

"An ideal place to get away from the noise and bustle of urban life."

9.0

The location, very close to the sea front in a small village with beautiful surroundings, was idyllic. It was so peaceful when we visited. We stayed a week but would have loved to have stayed longer. The cottage itself was lovely and the perfect base for our daily trips to various castles and nature reserves. We were very lucky with perfect weather for our trip, which just enhanced our stay all the more.

We didn’t really dislike anything. It wasn’t a problem for us but the narrow spiral staircase plus the very steep wooden stairs to the second bedroom could prove tricky for some guests and the drive down the quite narrow, steep and twisting road to Pennan itself might also be tricky for inexperienced drivers but it was worth it to reach such a beautiful location.

"Comfortable and cosy in a special location."

8.0

Th little house is warm and cosy and right on the harbour wall in stunning Pennan. The location is fantastic and the cottage ideal for a small group. Chiara was very attentive and pleasant to deal with. People unfamiliar with the area need to know about the road down to the village - and back up again! It’s the same one and not for the faint hearted. The beds are comfy and the shower is fine( the door is a bit glitchy). Lots of games, tv worth range of platforms to access, and useful information booklet on the house and area.

The stairs are not just steep they are almost vertical! The house information could be clearer on that point and that the second (twin) bedroom is in the attic. The fridge is a bit in the small side if you’re there for more than a few days.
