untether on Olive View

A Gem of a place and one that you are surely able to untether from life for a little bit. We enjoyed a much needed rest and recuperation. We made use of the meal kits which made even the preparation for our weekend away less stressful. Everything has been thought of in this comfortable unit. The hot tub was magnificent on both of the two beautiful nights we stayed. We were blessed with incredible weather on both nights. We had the peace, tranquility and privacy we wanted. Our host was only a whatsapp away and was on hand when we needed a very last minute online shop (our fault) on their online shop. Once you get there, you really don't want to leave. It was my birthday weekend and I honestly could not have spent it in a better place! We are planning our next stay already! If you are truly looking for a place to unwind and just take a breather from the world, this is most definitely the place to go. We have stayed in many places all over the world and this is by far the top of our list when it comes to true rest and relaxation ;)

There honestly was nothing we did not like.

The loo doesn’t have a door and is directly attached to the bedroom which also doesn’t have a door leading to the kitchen! The wind (which the property knows about as it’s addressed in the handbook) is raging and you can’t sleep without earplugs but they are provided. Pre-ordered pizzas were disappointing and massage was very average.

Well furnished cabin with quality kitchen equipment, comfy bed and fantastic braai, pizza oven and outdoor deck. Very friendly and helpful team on site who helped to quickly fix our broken fridge and turn around some laundry for us. The concept is excellent but we weren’t able to fully enjoy our stay, primarily because of the location and associated weather (see below).

The final section of road leading to Olive View has parallel strips of loose bricks which were just about passable in our VW Polo. We didn’t feel comfortable using the car during our stay as we were concerned about the risk of punctures - I wouldn’t recommend staying here without an SUV or similar (needs to be mentioned in booking site). Anticipating from other comments that this could be an issue, we came prepared with enough food for our complete stay (4 days). However, the biggest issue was the wind on this hilltop - it was gale force and blew for 3/4 of our stay - very noisy all day and night and preventing use of the outdoor facilities over this period. The window blinds do not block all sunlight so the unit also heats up quickly in the day and the aircon switches off automatically in the evening (not mentioned in the booking site) which made sleep difficult at times. Other niggles included no door to the en-suite toilet so sounds/ smells enter the bedroom and a section of the onsite walking trail being very overgrown. Arrive in calmer, cooler weather, in an SUV and you would have a better experience.

We absolutely oved everything. It’s exactly what they promise and the attention to detail is excellent.

The toilet forms part of an open bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. If you prefer this part of your relationship to remain private then this is not for you. :(

Our stay at Untether was unfortunately overshadowed by a serious security issue. Being so close to Wellington, the lights from the town beam up onto the mountain, which not only detracts from the relaxing atmosphere but also seems to pose a safety risk—as we sadly experienced firsthand. I took my pregnant girlfriend for a weekend getaway to propose, but our plans were derailed when we woke up at 3 a.m. to two hooded individuals outside our unit, carrying a large bolt cutter. They smashed our car window and ransacked the vehicle. We were terrified and left as soon as we felt safe the next morning. Initially, Untether offered to cover the excess on our insurance and refund us for the weekend. However, the manager later changed their mind and revoked their offer. I’m deeply disappointed.
