Near The Canal Homstay

Sigiriya is a tourist trap, so I was lucky to find this place. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The location could not be better, within walking distance from both Lion and Pidurangala rocks. My room was basic but comfortable and it had everything I needed. The Sri Lankan breakfast hit the spot.

Soundproofing could be improved. I'm not sure if there is hot water but, at least at this time of the year, cold showers are a must. I noticed that, during my stay, there was no water at all in the bathroom very early in the morning and late in the evening. Cash only.

To be honest the room does not look like what is in the photos. Those photos are probably several years old. The room was in rough shape. There was mold all over the ceiling, walls and in the white sheets on bed underneath top sheet. The bathroom had a very bad smell and had open vent which let mosquitos - and a number of other critters - in. Bed was okay but had thin foam that bottomed out. Despite the family being very kind I think it needs to be reported here the state of the room as we would have appreciated a more explicit review on Booking as there are a few things that might be a health risk here.

Really lovely homestay! The family are incredibly kind and genuine people who ensured we had everything we needed throughout our stay and cooked delicious local dinner and breakfast for us. The location was also perfect, being able to easily walk to Sigiriya rock. They went the extra step to beautifully decorate our bed with flowers which was a really lovely touch to welcome us into their home. There is also a really cute and curious 2 year old who always brightened our day by showing us around the property and playing games. Would recommend! 😊

It's at the end of a side street, so it tends to be more quiet than the rest of the hotels along the main road. Nice garden with lots of wildlife right at the doorstep (monkeys, birds, squirrels). Some staff members speak English which makes communication easier. The safari tour they arranged for me was also quite nice as I got to see many elephants in the wild. Great location within walking distance to the Lion Rock.

You basically get what you pay for. It's cheap but lacks in basic conditions. There is only a fan which basically just spreads hot air around the room. The mosquito net had holes in it so it didn't make much difference. The water pressure and temperature in the shower was absolutely terrible. The tap in the sink didn't work unless you opened the other tap under the sink. The room was super mouldy and it's really unhealthy to breathe in that air. Also, the owner is quite pushy when it comes to tours. I was having breakfast one day and he just put down a flyer for a tour and walked away without a word...is it too much to ask to have my breakfast in peace without having tours shoved down my throat? You do get the feeling of being seen as a cash cow while you're there. I think there are much better options in Sigiriya if you're willing to pay a little more. I think they have potential but they definitely need to upgrade the accommodation. For example, the outlet is almost coming off the wall and every time I plugged something in, it caused a short circuit.

Homestay! The location is perfect, just a short distance from Sigiriya Rock, allowing for easy access to one of Sri Lanka's most iconic landmarks. The homestay offers a serene and peaceful environment, with beautiful views of the canal and lush greenery all around. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully designed, providing a relaxing atmosphere. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home. Highly recommend this charming place for anyone visiting Sigiriya!

Nothing. Everything perfect

This homestay was the second part of our journey. We joined the family for 3 nights and from the very start we were welcomed into their home and family! Our room was ready when we arrived and it had everything we could need. We were greeted by a little girl she was only 2 and she took my hand and showed us round! The whole family were so kind! Anu gave us directions, tips and great recommendations for where to visit in Sigiriya. Anu son in law gave us a lift in the tuktuk at 4:30 am to see the sunrise at Pidurrangula rock and when it broke down, Anu brought up the scooter and we still got there. Anu’s younger son offered to show us a viewpoint to watch the sunset and he showed us all around and it was great! Anu also used his own tuktuk to take us to Dambulla for the day and waited around for us. We had dinner there the last night and had some drinks with the family and dinner which was delicious! Everything about this homestay was amazing and we would 100% recommend anyone to stay here!

The family was sooooo cute! They were friendly and kind and trying to help you with everything. They also serve excellent food. The stay is super close to the main road you can walk to restaurants and supermarkets. Also Lions Rock is very close. If you want to get in touch with locals and get a feeling for authentic srilancanian life we highly recommend this place.

Even though it was not the most beautiful room of our journey it definetly was the best stay!

You stay with an amazing family! Very friendly, helpfull and the Kids are really cute. The owner drove us around and gave us very good info about the religion and other things that we were interested in. The location was perfect, the breakfast was really nice and the restaurant is also very good!

The beds were kind of hard to lie on. It's a beaufiful homestay, just don't expect a hotel!
