The Penthouse at Mercers Croft

The Penthouse at Mercers Croft is a lovely property, tastefully decorated throughout out and very spacious. It is right in the heart of Stratford, so it is very convenient.

It was a very hot day, so the second bedroom and the lounge could do with a fan (there was one in the main bedroom which was much needed). Some may not like that it is on a main street and may find it noisy, but we didn't, and ear plugs were provided if desired! Everything else was perfect.

There was know Bath products in either bathroom, also there was,nt a frying pan.. To do eggs bacon ect..

Slight noise from the street at night but kids shouting can’t be helped.

The location was ideal if you want to have bars, restaurants and other attractions on your doorstep. The general look of the appartment and decor was attractive.

There was a lot of dust on living room and bedroom window sills. Our friends, who had the two single beds, told us that their beds were very uncomfortable, making it difficult to sleep. Apparently, one of them could feel the springs in the mattress sticking up. The waste hole, in the bathroom was dirty. The dining chairs were wobbly and one in particular was potentially dangerous. Our friends were also disturbed by the noise from the boiler. My wife and I had the double room. Our bed was perfectly comfortable, but we could hear noise from outside very loudly. I am guessing that the building may be a listed building and that it is not possible to replace the existing, single glazed, windows, which are the same as other buildings in that area, and that the owners are probably stuck with those windows, However, my wife and I could hear people on the street outside shouting at 2;00 am. Also, the service vehicles that came to carry out their duties very early in the morning sounded so loud that you could have been forgiven for thinking that there were no windows at all. Finally, the keysafe is behind a front door on the main street. It wasn't explained in the arrival instuctions that there was a key safe, although we were given a code that we took to be for the door to the room. The keysafe was in an outdoor area, with stairs, which led to up to the appartments. This was very dirty and did not create a good first impression on arrival. It was full of pigeon poo and other dirt. So, while this property had a lot of good points, there seems to be an issue with the maintenance and cleaning of it needing addressed. The issues with thick dust were particularly surprising when the breakdown of the charges included a £60 cleaning charge

The fact the electric to the whole property was lost on our second day and we were forced to go to bed at 9pm with no shower

It was a really lovely place, apart from single beds mattresses were very uncomfortable.

Mattresses, another pillow would have been nice.

Rooms are spacious and clean. The kitchen is good. The location is good, and close to the town center.

The sound insulation of the en suite bedroom is poor. I couldn't sleep well every night.
