The Upper House

Wow what an amazing place we were welcomed & met by our host Martha who was fabulous she gave us information about Cinque Terra, made bookings & recommendations on where to eat & what to do. Nothing was ever a problem we could contact her whenever perfect host she went well beyond in helping us & her little touches made our stay so much more pleasant. Would highly recommend staying at The Upper House the rooms & views are amazing. Thanks Martha

Nothing everything was perfect

Martha was above and beyond I have never had a host like her before. I will only be recommending friends and family to stay with her in the future. Her care to making sure you have the best experience in cinque terre shows and she is so thoughtful. She helped us out with reservations and itinerary- just an above and beyond person. The actual home was GORGEOUS and a perfect room for my friend and I and it felt like a luxury suite !!!

Absolutely thrilled to have chosen - The Upper House - for our one weeks stay in Cinque Terre. I had perused so many properties and was struggling to find a high end property with quality furnishings; many were dated and basic. We loved Upper House as it was boutique style with architect designed rooms , with amazing views. Due to availabilty we ended up staying in three of the rooms - the views were outstanding. Rooms spotlessly clean and amazing quality beds - much needed after the days strenuous hike. The showers , beds, linen, room decor = all high end. What made it so very special also was the LOCATION. Perched high up above Riomaggiore town, it was wonderful to retire away from the noise and crowds to a location where the locals live. There is a lovely restaurant nearby where it was lovely to sit amongst locals. the views are beautiful and it we spent many evenings walking in the vicinity as the views were so beautiful but also to watch children playing out in the street, people sitting outside enjoying their Vino. We would never have ventured to this part of the town had we not pucked The Upper House. Martha - our host literally planned our entire week, helping with downloading of train app, booking tickets, makking our entire weeks dinner reservations and even plannning the hiking routes. Without Martha's guidance, i would have struggled to coordinate everything. I never leave reviews but felt compelled to do so this time as Martha and the Upper House Expereince is one i will cherish. OUTSTANDING EXPEREINCE.

I wish i could have stayed in either the large apartment or room with balcony/sea view the entire holiday but The Upper House gets booked quickly so i had to change rooms. I am already planning my return .....

Martha, our host, was incredible. and essentially served us as our personal concierge. She communicated with us directly and immediately after booking was confirmed. She greeted us in person upon arrival, outlined local transportation, explained everything about the property/location, arranged luggage transport and all our dinner reservations at great restaurants, and our sunset boat cruise. The rooms are beautifully renovated and decorated. Contemporary, featuring all new fixtures, lighting, appliances, and the conveniences that come with modern new construction. It featured over-size towels, abundant new cookware and silverware, complementary beverages, maps to navigate the villages, powered black out window shades, as well as heated tile floors. Rooms offer a breath-taking view of the city and ocean, with a small balcony, chairs and table to enjoy the overlook. Wonderfully quiet in the evening, up and away from the street bustle. The description online is precise but doesn't do it justice. You have to see it. You can't believe it. The location is easily accessible via walk or elevator. In fact the last elevator is just across from the entrance. During our trip, we visited Rome, Venice, Milan, Florence, Riomaggiore, Montepulciano, Montalcino, and Monticchellio. By a wide margin...The Upper House was our most favorite accommodation. Our room, and Martha's attention to us, was everything we read about...and more. Don't hesitate to book this space for your visit and take advantage Martha's hospitality personal attention to your stay.

This was a perfect way to end our 2 week trip to Italy! The room felt very luxurious with a very comfortable bed, unmatched views of the city and sea, and modern upgrades throughout the room. The shower was very spacious which we found was not very common in any of our other stays in Italy. The host, Martha, was extremely personable and kind. She was very hospitable and made us feel comfortable throughout our stay. She reached out to us shortly after we booked our stay to help offer recommendations and any assistance in booking reservations. The stairs to get to the accommodation really were not too bad (this is coming from someone who was walking them on a sprained ankle!) so don’t let that deter you. The stairs lead to the most beautiful view I’ve ever seen, so it’s definitely worth the climb. I would absolutely stay here again if we find ourselves back in Cinque Terre!

Martha, our host, was very communicative and proactive. She was extremely helpful when it came to recommendations, FYIs on how to get around, and offering to help us make reservations (especially in Riomaggiore as she and her husband are long-time residents and know what’s up!). We had a car, so being able to add-on a private, secure parking spot was a nice luxury. The room itself was very clean and newly remodeled, which I think is generally harder to find in smaller towns like this. The heated floors, AC, and updated bathrooms were nice touches. I was expecting more of an Airbnb experience, but it felt more like staying at a boutique hotel where there were cleaners every morning to refresh your room. I’m OCD clean when I travel, but I felt very at ease with the cleaning measures here.

Martha was great at helping us plan our few days in Cinque Terre and making sure we had everything we needed. The apartment is in a quiet area of town but very close to the town center.
