Berty's Cottage Home Stay

Berty was a very amicable, courteous host in his home. Right from the start he helped in arranging pick up from the airport & a warm welcome at his place. Room was simple but quiet, clean and comfortable. Location excellent. Breakfast was fresh and well prepared. He also helped in organising tours around Jaffna and taxi service to Colombo. If you are looking for simple yet comfortable homestay in Jaffna, Berty Cottage is a gem of a place sure to satisfy most guests.

No hot water but it was ok. Not an issue in warm Jaffna. Nothing else atall.

The owners were amazing, always on hand to provide, tea, coffee or cold drinks and arranged tours, tuk tuks and train tickets. The breakfast was probably the best breakfast I've had in Sri Lanka.

The hot water shower didn't work, however, as it was so hot outside, it didn't really matter

We really liked Betty’s Cottage and the owners were really nice. They booked our bus from Colombo to Jaffna which was a huge help, and they waited up until 4 am for us to arrive. We had only booked the place for the following night so they charged us half a day. The breakfast offered was fine, nothing to rave about. The WiFi is really good! The hosts are also nice and very dedicated to making sure we got everything we needed.

We didn’t like that we were always locked inside. To go in or out, Berty needs to walk you through two gates at all times. During one of the nights, my friend wanted to smoke and found out they had locked the door and there was no way out.

The hosts go above and beyond to please you and anticipate all of your needs, service is closer to a 5 star hotel then a guesthouse. The house is spotless, with private parking area. Room is big, bed is comfortable, a/c very powerful, fan is strong. Towels are soft and smell good. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful, we packed also for lunch nibbles and they gave extra water for the trip! Can't recommend enough!

It was the first time we didn't have hot water for this price range room, but the service compensated it. You can't open the windows for the mosquitoes so it can feel a bit locked in. Having 4 more rooms we were surprised we were given the one with shower leak but we didn't bother. All these were little things for us compared to the amazing stay we had at Berty's cottage!

We got a wonderful welcome from the very attentive couple who run Berty's Cottage. This guesthouse is in a quiet neighbourhood, but also close to the centre of town. We were very comfortable in our fairly big and spotlessly clean room. Breakfast was homemade Jaffna food (we were offered a choice between English or Jaffna breakfast) it was delicious! The WiFi works really well and Berty was really good at helping with our travel plans. Oh, we had mangoes picked from the huge tree in the garden, they were the best we have ever tasted!

This is a super nice place to stay. It is very safe and clean. The room is nice with clean bed linen and towel. AC worked also super. But the best thing is that Berty and his wife are very caring people. They helped me with all. And the homemade breakfast they offer is also very delicious. They even offered me a fresh mango juice from their own mango tree. It's like you visit your own family.
