Berty's Cottage Home Stay

Hello Ladies and Gentleman, I recently had the pleasure of staying at Berty's Cottage as a solo traveler, and I must say, I felt incredibly comfortable throughout my whole visit in Jaffna. Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed by a lovely young couple who offered me a delicious cup of tea, which was a delightful touch. Even the process of paying was feeling featherlight. During my stay, I was quite busy with various activities, but I always looked forward to returning to my room in the evenings. The beds + blankets were exceptionally comfortable, and the air conditioning made for a perfect sleeping environment. I slept very well each night! The hosts were incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure I had a pleasant experience. They prepared a fantastic breakfast for me each morning, and even woke up early to accommodate my early check-out request. Their hospitality truly made a difference. I really can recommend Berty's Cottage to anyone looking for a cozy and family-like atmosphere. If you’re seeking a welcoming place to stay, this is definitely the travel - spot for you! We had a delightful experience at this hotel, largely thanks to the incredibly friendly couple who run it. They were exceptionally supportive and attentive, always ready to assist with anything we needed. The local breakfast was delicous, offering a tasty and satisfying start to each day. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed and well taken care of. If you’re looking for a place with great service and a genuine, personal touch, this hotel is an excellent choice. We highly recommend it!

One small point to note: there is no doorbell at the entrance, so you need to contact the owners via WhatsApp each time you arrive at the gate for them to let you in.

The place is just a bit out of the polluted, noisy center in a quite place where you can enjoy the silence around you. The room was spotless and big. Berty and his wife are very kind and excellent host. They offer all their hospitality to make your stay wonderful. They help you find tuk tuk, restaurants and help you organise also trips around. We had a lovely srilankan breakfast...fantastic quality!

Run by a friendly and attentive couple, the place was immaculate, providing a peaceful retreat without any disturbances. The highlight of our mornings was the delicious breakfast. This cottage is perfect for both foreigners and local families looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Highly recommended!

Berty and his wife are charming hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Their cooking is absolutely delicious - a delight to get enjoyed. The rooms are spacious and very clean. I had left my medicines in Colombo and Berty took me I to the pharmacy to have the replaced. Their ho e is situated in a very quiet area and you wake to the sound of a variety of birds. A very enjoyable and comfortable stay and I will definitely stay there again when I next return to Jaffna

Bertie & Hilda are the most fabulous host’s. They sent a tuk tuk to the station to collect us which was so welcome after a tiring trip. They were a wealth of information of what to do in the area & arranged a tuk tuk which was cheaper than if we sorted it out ourselves. They offered us coffee & the most delicious cake at no additional charge. Nothing was too much trouble & they kindly checked in on us to make sure that we had got to our next location safely.

There was nothing to dislike

Our stay at Berty’s Cottage was outstanding. Berty and Hilda are wonderful people really helpful with anything we needed, train, tuk tuk & tours before and after we arrived. Food was delicious as we requested genuine Sri Lankan and my husband got great cooking tips in the kitchen with dinner. They even packed our breakfast because we had a very early departure. The accommodation and their home is very clean and we felt welcome in all living areas. Thank you Berty and Hilda for a wonderful visit to Jaffna.
