The Stowey Arms

The bathroom in our room at the Stowey Inn was absolutely disgusting — without question the dirtiest bathroom I have ever encountered in accommodation. It was clearly not something that had been missed once, but something that had not been properly cleaned for a very long time. When we raised the issue, the landlady came up to clean it herself, which only reinforced how unacceptable the situation was in the first place. This is not a standard anyone should be expected to tolerate, and it completely ruined our stay. Basic hygiene should be a given — here, it was shockingly absent.

Need to put heating on. Was on for too short a time in the evening. However, they did provide blankets so I was warm in bed.

I knew I was going to enjoy staying here as soon as I opened the door and was lovingly mobbed by several pub dogs. Alison then greeted me warmly and showed me around. It’s a beautiful pub with friendly staff. The room was clean and comfortable with towels, small shampoo and shower gel bottles, a hairdryer and a big TV. Shower is nice, just takes a bit of time to heat up, so you need switch it on a little early before you’re ready to go in. The breakfast was incredible value for money; there was a good variety of food choices and it tasted great. I’d definitely stay here again if I was visiting the area.

Room could have been cleaned a bit better, the bathroom especially. It was a little chilly but I understand that these old buildings are difficult to keep warm.

Great place to stay, friendly atmosphere, great staff, good food and beer. Everything you want in a pub and overnight stay

The property was available and on route to break up my journey. The land lady facilitated a later check in which was great.

The bathroom floor hadn’t been cleaned. There were hairs and pubic hairs visible on the floor but the shower. The two towels on the radiator had pulls in them and dye stains. The room was small, which was fine, however the wardrobe beside the bed meant that every time I rolled over in the single bed, I struck it! To top off the experience, before hitting the road, I had to do a quick zoom with a client in the room at 9.30 am. Jumping into the shower at 8am I found that the power was off in the building. This was quickly rectified which was great, however, soon after dressing and jumped on the laptop, I was engulfed in the loudest music coming from the pub below… ‘Killing in the name of’ (Beastie Boys) being blared at ridiculous volumes by the pubs cleaner at 9.30am. While this wasn’t at an inappropriate time, the volume level was literally vibrating the floor and made it impossible to talk to my client on zoom.

Helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast much improved since last year. Friendly dogs. Good ale.
