Sea Shell Hotel

The location was excellent.

There is a heaven and hell difference between the photos on booking.com and the inside of the hotel. I was on a business trip and was told by colleagues living in Eastbourne that the hotel was being used to house illegal migrants while their asylum claims were being processed. I am not sure about this, though. I was on the third floor where part of the corridor was stinking of urine. There is no working lift. The manager/caretaker remains hidden in a room and comes out only when the Ring doorbell is pressed. There is no daily cleaning of the room, no fresh towels and the shower pressure on the top floor is non-existent. I paid £30 a night for three nights. When I asked the caretaker re the rooms not being cleaned nor the towels being changed, a woman seated in his room who claimed to be in the "hotel industry" started talking to the caretaker in their own language. All that I could pick up were the words "five star hotel service". I told her that I was not expecting 5 star service at this price point but some basic service like the towels being replaced after two days. I had paid similar money earlier this year and had a much better experience at the Oban and at the Strand, both booked through booking.com

Staff and location were great.

Lift was out of order. No curtain over one of the windows so was woken up extremely early by the sun and couldnt sleep, after a very long journey. Bathroom had paint chipping off the shower base and needed updating/cleaning.

Location was good

Zero staff available No reply from management Hotel was derelict, no staff other than at check in , no towels in room one pillow to share between 2 beds , no way of contacting in case of emergency. Lift out of use even thought there was no warning of this . No hair-drier in room. Strange smells and damp bedding . It would appear the hotel is completely falsely advertised online they should not be charging the prices that they are for such service . Couldn't complain to staff during stay as no one was available. There is no way this hotel has been passed by trading standards.

It’s really close to town centre and you have a beautiful view at night. Very close to the beach. It’s lovely
