Hex Wildlife Hotel at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Location and physical presence is impressive.

Walking distance from carpark to reception and then hotel entrance is a bit of a struggle if it’s rain g and you have bags.

Clean, comfortable, everything you would need for a stay including iron/iron board. As you would expect, we stayed as we had an animal experience so the location was perfect. It was quiet too (a lot of hotels you have selfish people slamming doors, talking loudly). Would stay again if we have another animal experience at the park.

The price. This can be quite pricey if booking directly on the Hex Hotel website but we managed to get a decent deal here on Booking.com. There is also quite a walk from the car park, not bad but we had a downpour when coming back from the car when forgot something so got rather wet. Footpath flooded too.

Good variety of choice for breakfast. Decor of room and comfortable bed, modern bathroom, lift access to floor levels, not noisy as in not able to hear others coming and going from their rooms. Self service style kitchenette area with microwave etc. Good choice of facilities on site, shops, other eateries, well laid out and ease of access to Yorkshire wildlife park

Skirting boards in bathroom could have done with a wipe clean otherwise nothing not to like

It had everything needed and check in was quick and easy. To checkout, you just place your key card in a box on the way out.

We stayed in room 232. The air conditioning had been put on and the room was freezing when we got there and despite turning the heating on, it barely got any warmer. I also found a tissue on the floor that wasn't mine or my son's. The main problem in the room however was the fridge. In the middle of the night it began making noises - a loud, low drone for about 20 mins with bursts of cracking and popping. Then it would pop, really loudly, for a good 10 minutes. It woke me up and I struggled to get back to sleep. I can't express how intrusive the sound was. I considered getting up and dressed, making my way through the hotel, out into the night and across the courtyard to reception but didn't feel confident enough to do that. Instead we left about 5.30 am when it got light. I wouldn't stay again and it really spoiled our trip.

Great for children with proximity to wildlife and views from window

Aircon and windows broken on very hot day which took 12+ hours to resolve, reception staff worked their best to resolve - resulting in room change. For room change rushed out of room despite making staff aware son (18 months) was having a nap, multiple knocks on the door within the hour - one staff member asking ‘well how long can he need he’s had an hour’ not what I expect from staff at a child-focused location. When flagged to hotel post-visit, no fault accepted, accused me of lying and attempted to shift blame on to me despite both me and my wife having the same account. Concern around lack of honesty from 3 members of staff present particularly when these staff also have access to rooms.
