Baker's cottage

Ładny domek w pięknym tropikalnym ogrodzie, ładnie i praktycznie wyposażony. Bardzo sympatyczni gospodarze, cała rodzina (mieszkająca w osobnym domu na tej samej posesji) - bardzo pomocni - oferują nie tylko wyżywienie i transport w okolicy, ale także organizację bardziej aktywnego wypoczynku - jak kilkugodzinny rejs łódką po rozlewiskach rzeki Madu , z którego skorzystaliśmy (warto - widoki o wschodzie słońca, pływające mini bary z kokosami, buddyjska świątynia na wyspie, wyspa cynamonowa - wszystko dopiero budziło się do życia :). Można też po prostu leżeć w łóżku na werandzie, gapić się w palmy, obserwować goniące się gekony, słuchać ptaków i mnichów z sąsiadującej małej wiejskiej buddyjskiej świątyni (którą też warto odwiedzić). Lokalna plaża nie bardzo nadaje do pływania, z uwagi na wystające kamienie, ale za to jest niemal pusta, a w odległości spaceru można znaleźć miejsca gdzie można się pobawić w falach. Gospodarze/ oferują też transfer na sąsiednie plaże, gdzie można bezpiecznie popływać, nam wystarczyła „nasza” lokalna :)

Właściciele byli bardzo mili i pomocni. Potrzebowaliśmy wizyty u lekarza i Kusan ja zorganizował i nas zawiózł. Obiekt jest otoczony pięknym ogrodem w którym nad ranem śpiewają ptaki i skaczą małpy. Plaża jest bardzo blisko.

Czystość jest na dość niskim poziomie. Internet tylko na zewnątrz. Spaliśmy przez ścianę, a w pewnym miejscu kilka desek z właścicielami. Łóżka były strasznie twarde. Pamiętajcie też, że to jest biznes i właściciele skasują was za każdą rzecz i usługę.

The staff and ambience

We were informed the night before our arrival that, due to a power failure, Baker’s Cottage was unavailable. The host promptly offered us accommodation at their sister property, Turtle Bay Cottage, which turned out to be a lovely alternative. The house was very clean and exactly as shown in the photos—simple yet well presented. Although a bit secluded, it’s only about a 10-minute walk to the beach, which made for a peaceful setting. Breakfast was included and varied each day. On our first morning we were served egg sandwiches with almonds and bananas; on the second morning we enjoyed delicious string hoppers with chicken curry and coconut sambol. You may want to pick up a few extra snacks or fruit from a nearby grocery store to supplement, but overall it was a satisfying start to each day. Despite this minor inconvenience, Turtle Bay Cottage offered a comfortable stay, a responsive host, and a quiet location close to the beach—an easy place to recommend.

Communication with the property managers could be challenging at times since they spoke little English. For example, we didn’t realize payment needed to be in cash and didn’t have enough with us. They seemed a bit reluctant to accompany us to the ATM during heavy rains, but we managed to sort it out when our Uber ride arrived.

The room is spacious. It has a calm atmosphere with a European-style mansion design. The bed making is very clean.

My stay here was not comfortable. First of all, upon arrival I was barked at by a dog. I was very surprised because I had never been barked at by dogs in Sri Lanka before. It seemed that the dog was not used to people. The room looks tidy at first glance. Since the property is located in a natural setting, I can accept a few insects, but I would appreciate it if large insects, pests, and big spider webs were taken care of. Also, there were no towels, toilet paper, or amenities, and the bath mat was not clean. Breakfast was homemade and I believe it was good quality, but it was too sweet for me and I could not eat much. This is a very nice facility, and I think it could become much better if these points are improved.
