Upper Yard Borris House

nice renovation of the old farm buildings. It was a very convenient location for us as we were spending a weekend paddling on the river Barrow

The surroundings of the area where the accommodation was could be maintained a little better. I appreciate its a working farm also so I understand thats not straight forward. But when looking to have guests stay i think a little more effort would go a long way.

Comfortable bed and location

When we arrived, there was no one to allocate room. Went to farm and spoke to a workman who was kind enough to ring the owner. He came out of Borris House and was not very sociable. We stayed in accommodation No.1 (€210 per night for 2 people) Double room with sofa bed. There was a large window in the room with the sofa bed which had shutters that could not open as they were secured by a large beam on the outside. They appeared not to have been opened or cleaned for some time. The glass was covered with bird droppings and there were old cobwebs between the glass and the shutters, (in the photos on the site the shutters were open). The wardrobe in the upstairs room was an opening in front of a door with hangers. There were cobwebs in the hall cupboard and in the bathroom. When in the bathroom the conversation between the guests in accommodation No.2 could be clearly heard. The only outdoor furniture were large communal tables and benches in an open sided shed across from the property.

Absolutely not interested in guests.

There was no one to assign the room. We tried to find someone for nearly an hour, went to the castle, the farm, etc. but there was no one there. Host did not answer the phone nor responded to messages. Eventually we just entered a room which had a key in the door and took it because we had paid all upfront (180 euro) but it was probably for someone else, but what could we do? Room was very basic with spiderwebs in bathroom and toilet not working. There were a handful other guests that managed to set off the fire alarm while cooking. Terrible night.

Property is very pretty converted coach houses/ stables on a stately home. There was a mix up with our reservation, but they had room for us across the street in a very nice B&B above a beautiful old pub. We were well taken care of and would return to either property next time we are there.

Clean and comfortable.
