Cosy private cottage near beach

The location is excellent, on the beach road to pretty Hele Beach with Ilfracombe just round the corner (the headland between is very steep but fabulous when you get up there) and easy access by car to both Exmoor and the delightful west Devon coast around Croyde. Ilfracombe is cute with fun pubs and good restaurants (we strongly recommend the food at 71 - best meal out I’ve had this year). The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher and washing machine, the heating is efficient and the living room is very cosy when you get the wood burning stove going.

You’ll need to buy/bring wood and matches if you want to use the wood burner and bring hot water bottles to air the beds in autumn/winter. The living room needs more/brighter lighting. We were a bit surprised there were no house instructions or guides to local places or walks. The garden is very steep but thoughtfully laid out - a few of the steps need attention for safety; more (rabbit proof) flowering plants would be nice. The cottage was generally clean with some glaring omissions - the corners and edges of the bathroom floor were disgusting and so was the dishwasher filter, the dining table was sticky and the stove had not been emptied of ash for some time.

While the owner did their best to resolve the issue the ongoing problem with the flushing mechanism of the toilet detracted from an almost perfect stay of three weeks

Booked for 1 night at short notice. The booking and check-in process was really easy. Parking on the drive was a big bonus. Smart kitchen, clean and suited us perfectly - thanks for an easy and comfortable stay!
