The Village Breeze By Lucky

I wanted to visit a really amazing place that was kind of a hidden gem, called Yapahuwa. But because it wasn't famous like Sigiriya I had a really difficult time finding an accommodation close to it. To my great luck, I eventually found Lucky's place and it made my stay perfect. Here are some things I really liked: - affordable place to stay - host with great hospitality, that goes out of his way to make your stay pleasant. Any problem, he fixed in no time for me. - great and easy communication before arrival to arrange things. I always got a swift and clear reply - really delicious & great cooking by Lucky's wife, that you can eat in the beautiful garden to make it even more perfect. - Lucky has a big knowledge of Sri Lanka tourism (I think he was/is a tour guide) and can help you with your travel goals - I had some really wonderful talks with Lucky about all kinds of things and he is a very interesting person - because it is a bit remote, the place is really quiet and I quite liked that after the hectic stays in bigger places. - only about 20 minutes by tuk-tuk from Yapahuwa, so you can easily get there early before the crowds

For me the only unpleasant thing was that my room had no air conditioning. With the humid climate of Sri Lanka, this made me very fatigued all day. Though Lucky said he was working on this. Also worth noting : - the shower had cold water, though it wasn't much of a problem for me because of the hot weather. I actually liked it. - the location is on a road that is away from town (Maho). It's not really a problem if you have your own transport and otherwise Lucky can arrange tuk-tuk or a car if needed. But it's something to be aware of.

Lucky and his wife run two homestays within 150m of each other about 8kms outside the busy service town of Maho, and important railway junction point. Luckys Homestay is the recently built of the two. Very comfortable, with fan (no a/c), and a full-length door in each room that opens on to forest setting. Full sized mosquito nets provide protection from insects, if needed. Lucky is an exceptional host, full of local knowledge and suggestions. Rooms rates include delicious home-cooked breakfast, and lunch and dinner are available by prior arrangement. Again, home cooked. Lucky can provide touring and transport services. This includes some great suggestions that do not appear in the usual travel guidebooks. Homestays are a great way to meet the ‘real Sri Lanka’, including local people. Lucky and his wife are young, warm and hospitable and just the sort of entrepreneurial types that will help Sri Lanka tourism to prosper.

I had a great stay at Luckys Homestay ! Amazing dinner and breakfast! Good place for me to breath out for one night before traveling to my next destination!

Visited on a particularly hot day and it was hard to cool off.

This homestay is ideal if you want to visit Yapahuwa Rock Fortress. You can walk around the lakes in the village and take a swim if you dare.

The place is located in a small village. There are no restaurants or coffee houses around.

for our very first night in Sri Lanka this young couple welcomed us like kings! the room was simple but comfortable. the meal and breakfast really excellent! thank you again for your kindness and warm welcome.

The accommodation itself was fairly basic in nature and there were some issues with the water

Lucky and his family are fabulous people with big heart. They will do everything possible to make you feel like home. During our stay, Lucky and his family were full of small attentions, we really appreciated it and had a great time.

Facilities are basics and could not suit everyone, but it was OK for us, except the mattress that was too thin.

A jungle getaway, and definitely an immersive experience far from the hustle and bustle. Lucky and his wife are amazing hosts. I felt pampered throughout my stay. They provided me with a bicycle so I could move around freely — discover Yapahuwa temple, and cooked a delicious dinner for me. I am vegetarian and they adapted the dinner accordingly at no additional cost. Breakfast is included, and so are water bottles. Finally, they helped me book a Tuktuk and plan the next stages of my trip, which was highly appreciated.

Nothing, it was great. However, you have to prepare yourself for a no-wifi stay (and it feels good to disconnect for a bit folks!).
