Huize Jon Hostel

Perfectly located for visiting Malang (close to train station and points of interest). The people there are so nice and helpful (we got some coffee and fruits and long conversations 😃). Good cheap tours organized by Jon. Beds are confortable. They said i could keep my bed and have a nap until midnight (before Bromo) without paying the night. One large dormitory, but though it is on a passing road, i could sleep well (no noise issues). Decoration of common room is nice.

Bathroom (especially sinks) seem to not having been cleaned since long (very dirty). Sometimes smell of cigarette in common room and eventually dormitory.

Hostel is close to the train station

Hostel exists solely so you can book a visit to Bromo mountain through them. Their Bromo tours are crazily expensive, 800k pp if you are 2 people and 650k pp if you are 4. I ended up renting a dirtbike and visiting Bromo with 1/4 of the price. The offered price for motorcycle simple scooter rental (through them) was 120k which is 2-2.5x the price in Bali/Nusa Penida, I ended up renting a big dirtbike for 80k additional. The hostel has zero socialisation, only some local guys sitting at the lobby, not replying back to you when you say "Hello" Facilities were mediocre to bad with exception the bed, nice smelling towel and good lockers. No hot water In general the locals who are in the tourist business are only kind to you as long as they are getting money from you. I was given wrong route information twice and was harassed for visiting the mountain without booking a guide by the local mafia. On the other side I met very good people who paid for my food and told me to be careful because not everyone who seems a friend really is.

The concept is lovely and the owner and his son were super kind and easy to chat with. The cafe is good with local coffee. The bed was comfy but AC wasn’t strong and lights on even with curtain were a bit annoying. The location is great. Super central to everything. I recommend going to the blue and rainbow villages for a look and to the night market. Lots of good restaurants and sights close by. Pictured was my fave food from the market. Must try! Do recommend going to waterfall from here

The AC could be better and I didn’t realize it was a bigger dorm. The showers were ok but not the cleanest I’ve had. The location was a bit noisey because it is central, so overall wouldn’t be my first choice to stay again, but maybe I’m picky. It was still pretty cheap, so a decent option!

The location is good. It’s like a 10 minute walk from the train station and around 15 minutes to the colourful villages. Staff was nice.

The whole building and especially the bathroom has a really Mouldy smell. I’m allergic to mould so I immediately felt, that there is a lot of it everywhere. The bathroom is also not clean at all and some beds didn’t even have sheets on, I was lucky to get one with.

Perfect stay. Lovely, welcoming and kind family happy to help you plan your time in Malang. Very clean, comfortable spacious dorm, air con,everal seperate toliets and showers rooms Amazing coffee...you must try.! Trendy cafe of antique indonesian collections. Everything you need. Excellent location to all local sights, cafes and restaurants etc. Public blue bus AG from bus station will take you striaght to the hostel door!. Malang (ML) train station 10 mins walking distance to hostel Malang (MLK) further away (30-40 min walk)

Nothing...wish I could of stayed longer!

Jon is the greatest guy ever , he helped me with all I needed and I got the best prices for all the tours I booked with him. I talked with other travelers and they got charged way more... He also produce his own coffee and you can drink it for free while you staying with him. Best coffee I had in Indonesia!
