Stone Shack Ella

Incredible stay at Stone Shack! We had the upper room with balcony and the view was incredible. Well worth staying slightly outside of Ella for! The room itself was perfect - really spacious, comfortable, and very well equipped. The family who run this homestay are just amazing. They were really kind, friendly, always made sure we had what we needed. They also used their tuk tuk to take us into Ella when needed at a cheaper price than most others. Amazing breakfasts too. In terms of value for money this place is really good compared to others we’ve stayed in at a similar price point. If we came back to Ella we wouldn’t stay anywhere else!

The family is really lovely and helpful. We had a great time. The place is nice, quiet, and the view amazing. The breakfast was abundant and tasty, and the room is spacious and clean. 100% recommended.

The view from our balcony was amazing! (Make sure you book the room with balcony - as this room is on top level). The room is super spacious with doors that open up to the balcony. The sunrise is right out the front of the balcony and you can see little Adams Peak and ella rock from here. The accommodation is about a 20-minute walk from town. (If you figure out a few shortcuts). We didn't mind the walk and only took a tuk-tuk once. (The tuk-tuk to the accommodation from town is 800 rupees). Let's just say the hike to the accommodation gets rewarded with a stunning view.

Everything about our stay was just fantastic. We chose to stay out of town to enjoy the views more. The communication was great from the host and they came and got us from the town at a lower cost than drivers were quoting us. The welcome was friendly and we were given tea whilst enjoying the spectacular views of little adams peak and Ella rock. We had an amazing homemade dinner. The host very kind and told us about the spices she had cooked with. We were really interested in it and she even explained some of the cooking methods. The room was comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. She gave us great advice to hike up Ella rock. Dinner again was superb and she had cooked different curry’s for us to try. We would’ve stayed longer if we hadn’t already booked a train. I would highly recommend staying here.

Amazing hosts, super helpful and they prepare a delicious breakfast each morning. We really liked the location, we had an amazing view and it was nice and quiet during the night. With just a 20-30 min walk into town totally doable. The room is very clean and spacious and the bed was super comfortable. We would definitely recommend and stay here again!

We loved our stay at Stone Shack! The family is so kind and helpful and they make delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts and dinners. The upper room has a private balcony with amazing views on the mountains. This is also where you eat your meals. Every time we returned from a day out we received tea and biscuits. So kind! The room itself is very big, clean and has a comfortable bed with mosquito net. When you have your own tuktuk you'll have to drive up a pretty steep road, but you'll get used to it. There is also plenty of space to park. Would highly recommend!

We had breakfasts and dinners. Both were excelent,tasty, delicious. The house lady was very helpfull and she organized Tuk Tuk each time, when we needed it. The view from terasa is unbelievably beautifull. The sunrise up the mountain was the best.

We stayed here for 1 night after a bad experience at new green view (just down the road) and we absolutely loved this place, we had the room at the top with the best view of Ella rock and little adams peak, this property is so high up and so beautiful!! The host was the most kindest couple and couldn’t of done more for us! We had dinner on our balcony which was very delicious and same for the breakfast! They organised a tuk tuk to town in the morning too. Yes it’s a little walk out of town but that didn’t bother us as we had a scooter during our stay, and totally worth it for the best view :)
