George's Cottage

The location was easy to get to and our dog loved it.

There was nothing we did not like about the place.

The cottage was so beautiful and cosy. The AGA provided lovely warmth in the cold and we were treated to a freshly baked cake and eggs on arrival (and milk in the fridge). Location was great and we were able to walk from the property to the hikes we had planned.

I couldn’t understand why, in many reviews of this property, people choose to mention the homemade cake? I now know why! It is the most delicious ever, and crazily worth coming back for ! The cottage is A1 - home from home- Filled with quality goods- Clean as a whistle-Fantastic location for walking and exploring the Peak District. Can’t fault it. Thank you, Georgie.

Nothing to dislike

George's Cottage was cosy, homely, equipped and furnished to a high specification. It had everything we needed and more. The welcome pack included, bread and milk, marmalade , eggs, wine and the best homemade Jam Sandwich cake we've had ! The lounge had a large smart TV which was a blessing for us in the evening as the weather wasn't great. Loved the Aga and drying facilities as our visit was quite wet. The beds were huge and extremely comfortable. Overall we felt the cottage was actually better than the photographs.

The stairs are steep to the first floor bedroom and bathroom. They are even steeper to the attic bedroom with narrow treads. There are plenty of hand rails. If you frequent the toilet in the night use the first floor bedroom! ! To access the terraced garden you have to cross a shared pathway to the gate. This may not be ideal for some dog owners. Once the gate is closed it is perfectly safe and enclosed for your dog. These issues didn't spoil our stay but I could see how it may be a problem for some people and their dogs.

Great welcome! There was a homemade cake, bottle of wine and flowers to greet us on our arrival. Communications with the host were easy and straightforward, and Georgie even dropped by to say hello and make sure we were settling in ok, which we were! We had good weather and the garden at the back of the cottage was a lovely space to relax and well set up for eating outdoors too. The cottage is exceptionally well fitted out, including high pressure hose for muddy boots and an Aga. We were not familiar with this but soon found our way around it.

A small point, the Aga, which also provided plentiful hot water, did mean that the kitchen / diner was quite warm when we were there. Not a problem if temperatures had been cooler outside, and we simply kept the door open to keep the cottage pleasantly airy.
