The Jolly Sailor

Just what I needed for a couple of nights to attend a family event nearby.

The room was clean, comfortable and well decorated. The room had a chest of drawers and hanging space so was well equipped. There was also enough coffee sachets which was a plus many hotels scimp on. The general feel of the pub is that maintenance and cleanliness aren't top priority, so the room was a pleasant surprise.

There was no hot water from the sink tap despite running it for several minutes. Unfortunately the place has no staff on site in the morning so no way of sorting. Luckily the shower is electric so did have hot water...albeit a bit of a pathetic dribble but does get you clean eventually. The corridor smelt a little funky but the room was ok as there was an automatic air freshener squirting perfumed air into the room every 10 minutes. I had to move it into the bathroom to get to sleep in the end but that's fine. They only do food on certain nights (weekends I believe) but there is an Indian restaurant practically next door which was decent.

We stopped here for Coldplay concert and were looking for something low cost and local to Hull stadium. Check in and check out was easy. Parking on site. Quiet area and was perfect for one night stop.

Ideally situated, comfortable and clean staff friendly and helpful.

Doing a sponsor walk for Charity is gruelling, but staying here made sure we had a brilliant sleep to set off on our last leg of West to East walk. The landlady and the staff couldn't do enough for us. It was fab

Incredible value for money. Very clean rooms and we opted for a budget room with a shared bathroom as it was literally somewhere to get our heads down after a family party nearby. Everywhere was immaculate. I’m sure comments will and have been made about the atmosphere in the pub below…it was obvious that trouble was brewing but we knew that we were staying above a pub when we booked. So back to the rooms…absolutely lovely and really comfortable we paid less than £60 per room and were so impressed. Have stayed in hotels at nearly double the price that were nowhere near as good or clean. Well done Jolly Sailor!

I didn’t like the fight that broke out in the pub when we headed downstairs to go out to the local shop opposite. It was scary. However…my husband said to think of it as free entertainment - a boxing match! Either way, once the pub closed it was a really quiet night and we slept well.
