The Old Vicarage

The hotel was warm, everything worked. The breakfast was excellent. The pool and sauna were great. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating.

The decoration throughout is a little tired and dated but it didn't detract from the stay.

It’s a bit of a maze, some signs saying this way to reception would be good.

Gorgeous location and building. Host and hostess were friendly and welcoming. Information aplenty, gorgeous room, clean with shower and bath ... Spiral room. Lovely breakfast options cooked to perfection.

The location in Ambleside was excellent; right in the village but secluded so noise was minimal. The facilities were excellent including pool, spa, reading and sun rooms and access to walking paths. Breakfast was very good with great service. Car parking on site. We had a ground floor room which was a bonus given the luggage we had.

Unfortunately, the room did have an odour, especially when we first entered, not strong but noticeable. Believe it to be stale cigarette smoke. The bathroom also had an odour, reminiscent of "wet dog". Could very well be, given pets are welcome at the hotel, which we were aware of.

Good parking, nice and clean, staff friendly, breakfast good and location good.

Think the hotel could do with a paint throughout some of the corridor walls are marked and look a bit dirty.

Exceptionally dog friendly and very attentive staff. Location is perfect as bang in centre of Ambleside. Beautiful old building and breakfast in room is a nice touch. Would defo stay again.

Location was good, walking distance to shops and restaurants / pubs... accessible by bus. It has facilities - pool, sauna and hot tub which was nice for relaxing after a long day out... the room has jacuzzi bath as well... it is a dog friendly property but surprisingly quiet... overall a good property to stay.

Breakfast is limited so if you're staying for a few days, you'll likely have the same breakfast everyday... the smell of bacon from the kitchen will wake you up in the morning... not really a bad thing but the smell of food lingers in the halls and corridors... they can use something to take the odour away to have a fresh / clean smell on the property... the use of facilities is limited up to certain hours, although there is no lifeguard on duty... it would be nice to be able to use them a little bit later specially if you get back from the day a later to relax...
