Rain Forest Star

The perfect stay for your nature adventures in Sri Lanka. We read a lot about the troubles of finding a good and engaged guide, this is how Rainforest Star was suggested to us. Not only do you get a very new, spacious hotel room, amazing home-cooked meals, but also the best possible guide. We loved our stay and all our expectations were met!

All was just as we had hoped for.

I have no words to express my generosity for this experience that I had by staying in Rain Forest Star and having as my hiking guide Prabath. He and his family welcomed me, and I felt no difference rather than being with my own family. The hiking experience exceeded far and beyond my expectations, and Prabath's family treated me like a Sri Lankan family member. Kikiri and Shehan looked after me with their kindness as well. I don't have a better memory of such an amazing hiking experience in the Rain Forest with Prabath. From the bottom of my heart, thanks 😊 ♥️ and cu again .

Absolutey worth you Money. The family running this place is amazing, they try to make your stay as comfotable as possible. No false promises or outdated photos, everything is clean and brand new. 10/10 will come again.

This is a boutique hotel set on the edge of the rainforest, run by a lovely young couple, Prabath and Harshani. The room is spacious, modern and comfortable with terrific natural light, it's own modem and ample power sockets and lights. It has a modern shower-room and a kitchenette area which has plenty of space for the kettle, cups and drinks-making facilities. There is a private outdoor seating area which overlooks fields with trees just beyond. It's like a nature garden. Just relaxing on the deck we saw white-throated kingfishers, both blue-tailed and green bee-eaters, flower-peckers, doves, a grey-headed eagle (couldn't decide on identity) and so much more. After sunset we saw fire-flies too - a great favourite of ours. Prabath is a Sinharaja forest guide and he accompanied us on our day in the rainforest. He is an amazing spotter of animals - quite incredible. He is good company too, easy to spend a day with, and has a wide knowledge of the forest's animals and plants. Harshani looks after the hotel side of things and is a fabulous cook. We booked full-board and stayed for 2 nights. We enjoyed every meal. I did see them collecting some veg and spices from their own garden so, whilst it may not all be home-grown, much of it is.

I may have put a small bin in the bathroom as well as the one in the main room, but it isn't a big deal.

It’s the best place to be in Sinharaja. Everything was great ! The room is really beautiful, the view on the rice fields is amazing. Thank you for everything, the tour and the food were excellent! I can’t wait to come back !

Fantastic homestay at the edge of the Sinharaja Forest. Very new, very clean, wonderfully decorated, spacious cabin. Large, comfortable bed with well designed mosquito net. Exotic bathroom. Nice sitting area outside with wonderful Jungle view. We enjoyed just sitting there, watching the birds. A little place in paradise. The absolute star is the host family though. Prabath and his wife Tikiri take loving care of their guests (including our driver/guide, who he helped to find a place to stay). Delicious home cooked meals - don’t miss out on Chef Tikiri‘s dinners! We had yummy rice&curry one night and great Kotthu for the second dinner. Prabath also is a certified guide for the train forest and we followed his recommendation to take the “7 Waterfall full Day Tour” with him driving us to the Lankagama Entrance instead of the Park entrance at his house. It was really worth it. He found so many different animals: snakes, frogs, lizards, spiders,… brought lunch for us (which his wife cooked fresh early morning)… and took us to amazing waterfalls.

The best thing is the family who owns this hotel/inn. They always thought about our needs and tried to accommodate as much as they can. The food wife made was really tasty! They kept this place really clean as well. The place was really quiet and we felt so peaceful. They also do rain forest tours. The owner is such an expert about the nature! とても心のこもった宿で、オススメです。

Only thing could be that there is no air conditioner while they have fans. Of course, it is in nature, but the weather in this area is quite stuffy.

This place is a hidden gem! It is a brand new place very close to the rainforest. It is run by a Lankan family, very friendly and sincere. If you are someone who loves to travel and connect with people this is a place for you. We were supposed to stay for two nights, but we ended up staying for four. Prabath is an amazing guide and we went two times with him to the rainforest. He knows every single detail about the jungle as he was raised in this area and he is really passionate about nature and respectful towards it. It was the best of our stay in Sri Lanka!

The stay with Prahbat and his family was just amazing. The Cabin they offered us has a great view into the beautiful nature and is quite new. The room is big and the bathroom is luxurious and the opposite what you find in most Sri Lankan accommodations. Anyhow the best part is the location, the amazing hospitality and the food! The wife cooked everyday freshly and delicious for us and also took lovely care of us! This whole family was just welcoming and helped us with everything at any given time. If there was a nice Bird or anything worth to see at their premises they showed us. The best thing you can do is doing a tour into the rainforest nationalpark with Prahbat. You can choose from a few tours he offers, we did the waterfall tour and just had an amazing day in the nature which felt like spending time with a friend. We had lunch, which he provided, right next to a huge waterfall. He also took our wishes seriously like not showing us spiders. He showed us a lot of animals and told us a lot about Sri Lanka, in fluent English, which is not the rule among the guides. Overall we can really recommend to stay at this special place. In general the area is not as crowded as many other places in Sri Lanka and more visited by locals than foreigners.

The host family is incredibly cute. A highlight was the opportunity to eat Sri Lanka breakfast, as they cooked for themselves Pranobert was also out guide for the forest walk. He's very knowledgeable and caring with the jungle.
