Convenient location to stop on the way to Cornwall.

Shower in the middle of the room. Door to pub locked on arrival, eventually got funding to answer. We were told there was a £10 charge for our puppy to stay despite the fact that our booking said it included the dog staying and there was no mention of any additional charges. We booked breakfast for 8am but again everything was locked up and we waited 20 minutes before a member of staff turned up and apologised. As a result we didn't eat until nearly 8:45am which delayed our setting off for our onward journey. Breakfast was disappointing, small portion, luke warm and no tea only coffee. The room was clean and tidy and the bed comfortable but with only one small, flat pillow it wasn't the best night's sleep. Sadly they now have a massive building site behind the pub and they started work before 7am forcing us to wake early. Overall we felt disappointed both with the lack of sleep and breakfast. Not somewhere we would stay again and sadly can't recommend either.

Room was poor

Advertised as a garden room view, it was a new build building site. No wardrobed or drawers for putting any clothes, Wafer thin walls where you could hear next door going to the toilet, conversation word for word even next doors guests snoring. The fire alarm went off at 1am and continued all night with no contact number so all the guests had to sleep in their vans and cars. Tried numerous times to contact them regarding a partial refund but no reply, and nobody called like I was promised by the young lady who answered the phone who told me management would be contacting all guests. Avoid this place at all costs.

We unfortunately picked a night they didn’t have food . We tried to have a drink in the bar area but we didn’t realise there was a Halloween kids party and there were children excited running around the pub so we went to our room

We had a fire alarm issue. Bad enough that this kept on going off during the evening. 8-11 pm. So loud! Clearly the issue was not resolved as it set off again around midnight. No staff on site, no key holder arrived. The fire brigade did ( excellent response and attitude ) They could not detect the fire. Some guests left, whilst others including myself had to try to sleep in our cars. To not have a policy of fire protection in place is horrendous and probably illegal. The chef arrived just before 7, as shocked as anyone. Turned the alarm off and we managed to get into the rooms to shower etc whilst the alarm continued to go on and off. Such a shame as the hotel and staff are good. It's been 1 day since and I am yet to have any comms from them and no sign of compensation. Poor at best.

Main building is a good example of the local architecture. The staff weee friendly and accommodating.

The sleeping quarters were very basic. The main issue was that the walls were very thin and you could hear everything your neighbours said, did, including fans, heat pumps, toilets, showers etc. Then rhere is a building site directly behind the rooms, that starts at 0730.

Outstanding food and lovely staff in the restaurant, especially the lady who cooks breakfast. The rooms are compact, have been tastefully decorated, and are well equipped. Good bathroom and shower, but nowhere to hang towel. Nice selection of tea and coffee.

There was no heating in the room until the morning we were leaving. In mid-October, it was too cold to sit in the room and relax, and the towels were cold and damp on the second day.
