Loch Maree Hotel

The hotel is beautifully situated on the shores of Loch Maree and makes an easy stop on the NC500. The location is peaceful and scenic, with easy access to nearby attractions including Victoria Falls.

Unfortunately, the room fell short of expectations. While we appreciated the historical significance of staying in a room reportedly used by Queen Victoria, the accommodation itself felt tired. The carpet appeared worn and dirty - and the four-poster bed was very squeaky and uncomfortable, affecting sleep quality. We were advised that the shower pressure might be low, but in practice it was almost non-functional and it was difficult to wash hair properly, despite using it during off-peak hours. The water is safe to drink and naturally coloured due to the local peat, which is understandable, although the taste was not appealing. Breakfast was particularly disappointing. The cooked breakfast appeared overcooked, with rubbery sausages and generally poor quality compared with what we would expect from a Highland hotel.

Primarily the crew. All were very attentive and helpful with a wonderful way of lifting your mood, even if it is already good. Special thanks to Duncan, an absolute gem.

Het uitzicht op het Loch. In de avond en in de ochtend hebben we heerlijk gegeten.

Very good breakfast and lovely hosts

Location suited us. Nice setting on the banks of the loch. The chap that met us on arrival was very helpful throughout our stay, couldn’t do enough for us.

Single rooms were tiny. Unfortunately no evening meal (due to unforeseen circumstances). Kicking and banging doors at 1am and 2am in the morning. A drunk right below my window wanting into the hotel. Raised with the manager in the morning and he didn’t really acknowledge it had happened.

A fantastic hotel in a wonderful setting, perfect for our journey around the NC500. Rooms were grand and rather large with a stunning Loch view. Evening meal was lovely, and breakfast great. Duncan looked after us and was a great host along with Anna and the rest of the team.
