We liked the place. It’s clean and the caretaker is always available. My family really loved the place and we will definitely be coming back.

The road to the house is not so good but it’s also not that bad unless it has rained then it will definitely be an issue.

"Stunning farm house stay"

8.0

The house was absolutely beautiful. It was a modern farm house which was spacious enough for the whole family to enjoy. House was neat, clean and everything provided was in great condition.

The shower door on ground floor was not closing, therefore bathroom floor got really wet. Shower floor also had a crack which needs to be replaced to prevent serious damage to floor boards. Showers missed soap rack to keep toiletries while showering on. Upper room bathroom drains were clogged badly in shower, bathtub and basins. Door handles were very tight so it was hard to open and close doors. Place is beautiful, just needs a little TLC.

"Serenity at the farm"

Everything was wonderful, beautiful. It was our second time at the farm and we are very satisfied. The peace and calm we needed to reboot and reset is exactly what we got. The staff is very friendly.

"Lovely spot, but a few issues."

7.0

Thula is a truly exceptional getaway. We visited with children during colder weather, yet they spent hours outdoors enjoying nature and just being kids. The location is ideal—tucked down a private farm road with clear signage, and only a short drive from Clarens or Bethlehem for groceries, dining, shopping, and pub outings. The road is accessible for most vehicles, though it can get tricky after rain without a 4x4. The house itself had everything we needed: plenty of hot water, spacious rooms, ample closet and kitchen storage, and a kitchen perfectly suited for large family meals. The outdoor patio and big braai area were highlights, and most of the indoor fireplaces were in great working condition, adding warmth and charm. We appreciated the friendly and approachable on-site staff, who were always ready to help. Their dog was calm and non-intrusive, occasionally popping by with them when they delivered wood. It felt like a comforting security presence. Even the staff’s children were polite and helpful, never in the way. If you're searching for a peaceful farm retreat with stunning views and plenty of space to relax and reconnect, Thula absolutely delivers.

We did encounter a few disappointments during our stay. I had booked Thula from the United States through Booking.com using my debit card, only to find out at the time of payment that they required a wire transfer—debit cards weren’t accepted. This critical detail wasn’t disclosed during the reservation process, and isn’t flagged anywhere on Booking.com. Thankfully, a family member in South Africa was able to help with the payment, otherwise we might have lost our booking entirely. Clear communication about payment methods is essential and should be made available upfront. As for the property itself, although Thula is advertised as fully equipped, the kitchen didn’t quite meet expectations—especially considering it’s meant to accommodate up to 14 guests. There were just two pots, two pans, a broken can opener, no bottle openers, hot pads, or serving utensils. We had limited glassware, with only 8–10 cups including wine glasses. We also had to purchase extra toilet paper ourselves after being told staff needed management approval to provide more than the partial rolls available upon arrival. Additionally, while the house claims to sleep 14, there was only dining space for 8, so we had to eat meals in shifts. The outdoor patio furniture was also worn and in need of repairs. Overall, while the setting was beautiful, greater attention to transparency and amenities would go a long way in improving the experience.
