OYO Shanklin Beach Hotel

Nobody was at the reception, they just refunded one night. I don't search a new hotel for one night and come back the second day because the Hotel can't provide a receptionist.

Location

Room was not presented as shown, beds lacked stuffing and were all springs, pillows old and shower didn’t shower just poured. As we were only occupants of hotel at the weekend it was suggested we could stay on our own with back door on the latch. Staff were understanding when we asked for our money back for the two nights but we shouldn’t have been put in that position. If we had of stayed we had no mobile reception so couldn’t have used the number we were given or called for emergency services if required.

This the worst hotel we have stayed in. It is "tatty" and well passed its best. Needs major improvements. When we arrived we were told the hotel would be closed on our checkout day and we would have to leave by the side door. We were very uncomfortable with this particularly as we didn`t think anyone else was staying in the hotel. As a result we did not stay for the second night and found a room in another hotel. The hotel is in a good position but adjoining properties are also not attractive and generally the area is in decline. We paid £184 for 2 nights which was room only. This was certainly not value for money. The hotel which we stayed in for our second night was a similar price and given the experience was good value.

Sea view, heating, double glazing

Poor, old mattresses. Terrible en-suite. General dilapidation and decor. Food very ordinary and cold.

Location on beach front was good close to excellent restaurants. Hotel is tired and needs a lot of upgrading. The breakfast was good value for money and the staff in the dining room were friendly and helpful.

The shower in the bathroom over the bath was a total disgrace and there was no privacy from neighbouring buildings while in the shower. The building is like a rabbit warren.
