The Horton Hotel

after hours lock out at 10:00. did not remember code written on paper when I checked in. emergency call not responded to. but for someone walking out of hotel would have been locked out for night. code should be texted to guest phone numbers to avoid this situation. No window in room. Parking blocks away.

Room was very nice and clean, shower was luxurious! Was very happy with the complimentary breakfast. Enjoyed the rooftop lounge and walkability of downtown.

The only drawback was the room did not have a window, which wasn’t really noticeable until the next morning when we noticed the lack of morning light. A livestream from the rooftop was a fun touch.

Location

We stayed in a top floor suite. It was very comfortable. the hotel did a lot of outreach before our arrival. Despite being downtown and having a rooftop bar, we had no noise problems. We were able to hear a neighboring suite’s music one day, but it was music we liked so it did not bother us. Additionally, despite being downtown, the lights from the street lamps and businesses also did not bother us at all. The ambiance of the hotel was nice.

breakfast is not laid out for you to pick what you would like Continental style. Rather, you have to go down to the lobby and into the downstairs bar and wait for whoever’s working which when we were there was only only one person and she was quite busy doing chores around the restaurant area, but I had to wait to order menu items like a bagel and fresh fruit and boiled eggs. I ordered them to go. And she overloaded two large plates in such a way there was no way i could carry them up to my room (“to go”). I ended up rearraging the food so i could transport it, she watched me doing this then when I was finished asked if i would like help carrying the food to my room . . . . this is one example of the rather disappointing customer service. Another example comes from the downstairs bar. We arrived Friday night to check in before the closing hour for the indoor, but they were closing it early, and would not make us drinks and directed us to the rooftop bar. you can only get to the rooftop bar by elevator - it took 10 minutes for the elevator to come to us. we were able to get 1 drink each our first night there. Moving on to Saturday night, they decided to close the indoor bar early again. In fact, they began closing by or before 9PM. Again, they would not make me a drink and i had to go through the hassle of going to the rooftop bar and waiting to get a drink. I then took my drink downstairs to the indoor bar b/c I wanted a chill, relaxing, warm place to enjoy it. Because I drank it there, I observed that the staff did not complete the closing process until 10PM. I feel they definitely could still make hotel guests drinks and charge them to their rooms in a situation like this. Maybe they turn away non-guests who will need to pay with a card or cash before leaving since they may have their registers closed.

room 2 was directly under the main floor and lobby area so it had a lot of foot traffic which echoed thru the floor to our room until like midnight until the bar closed the pillows could have been firmer they kinda disappeared the longer you layed on them

Location

Bottom floor had a very odd smell. Floor in bathroom was black, needs to be cleaned properly. Felt weird to walk on the floors in there without feeling like they weren’t cleaned. I had a $55 room charge for breakfast and they ended up charging me $322 accidentally instead. That wasn’t very pleasing.

The location of this hotel is perfect for people that want to enjoy downtown Boone on foot. You can walk to all of the stores and restaurants. It was perfect for my stay! The staff was very helpful and pleasant, always a smile on their face. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was very nice with good pressure.

The rooms on the lower level are very dark, with no window. I did have the 1 room on the lower lever with a window but you had to look up to see out the window. If I have to say anything negative that would be the only thing I can come up with about the hotel. It really is a great place to stay.
