The Lodges at Craigendarroch Country Club

Location was great and close to Ballater and Balmoral

A little dated in decor and patio unusable as layer of heavy dust over seating and patio floor. Work taking place with roadworks on site during stay which was noisy.

The property is in a lovely location, close to lots of amazing walks and lovely towns and a great artisan bakery near balmoral castle. Staff were all so lovely and very accommodating. Cleanliness was great in the hotel, lodge was overall pretty clean especially the bathroom and all equipment was brand new (oven, iron etc) lovely thick curtains that keep out the light, overall lovely and quiet, great pool and gym.

Unfortunately the lodge is very very out dated, although equipment was new everything else looks like it’s from the 70s which doesn’t add up to the hotel and its stars. Very uncomfortable hard beds so didn’t sleep well at all, uncomfortable sofa and seating so just didn’t have a comfortable stay, which is not what you want when you go away. Sofas worn, old carpets and curtains, furniture just very used, we feel for the money paid it should be a top modern design, just had no luxury to it, walls dusty and dirty, balcony needs up dating and cleaning just a bit of a let down to everything else. Check in time to late also. Unfortunately because of how out dated the place is it has put us off rebooking as it doesn’t add up to the price. Also hotel food is also not in line with cost and number of stars the hotel has, very below average I’m afraid. Panna Cotta very flat and watery tasted like it had just been defrosted not creamy enough at all and lack of any flavour.

It is in a lovely walking area but there was no official path to connect to either the Craigendarroch Loop Path or down to the River Path, they were both a scramble and hope for the best. The electricity charge was £25 for 2 nights in June. It was cold, we had the heating on, this is just to give an indication of what to expect.

It was a beautiful clean lodge, it was a great size and it was well equipped with everthing you need.

I didn’t like that we had to pay for electricity, which was not stated at all till check out.
