"Best place in Bukit Lawang if you like nature"

9.0

We had to hike approx. 30 minutes to get to the place. It is located at the river, surrounded by jungle. We could watch monkeys while sipping delicious jungle tea. The food was very tasty. We liked the place so much that we even extended our stay. I would come back here any time.

"Experience of a lifetime!"

10.0

Back to nature by name and experience! Staff were welcoming and friendly. The environmentally friendly aspect of this place was amazing and the scenery breathtaking. Loved every minute of our stay and the trek into the jungle to see the orangutans was out of this world. This place is definitely for the intrepid traveller and will totally fill your cup. Bring soap!

Knowing a little bit more about the 40 minute trek to the location would have been useful. I did it in a dress and sandals - not recommended!

"Truly amazing & worth doing again every year."

8.0

Location is serene and perfect for a reboot. The hike to the location is about 45-60 minutes and is worth it. Food options are healthy and local. Nutritious. Fresh juices are next level. Jungle tea is supreme. You can enjoy a dip in the river flowing next to the place.

"Exceptional"

10.0

Beautiful secluded place, surrounded by nature. It takes 30-45 minutes to hike there from the edge of town, walking next to the river. It's a really nice hike, but it can be challenging with luggage or in rainy days. Great view of the national park from the balcony, we got to see some gibbons, and plenty of monkeys. You can also hike in their private land, though there's no clear paths since they are likely not walked often. Yanta is a great host, and cooked us some tasty food. They also organised a jungle trek for us, and we had a lot of fun with Edi and Rama. .

The path from Bukit Lawang needs some care and maintenance, to make it more accessible.

"Taking too much risk with our family, 1 out of 2 bungalow completely run down"

2.0

The main building was quite nice and the garden, too. After all the issues (see below), the staff completely understood we wanted to leave and allowed us a penalty-free cancellation. They also helped us get back to the village.

I’ve never written a negative review before, and I’ll try to be factual, even though I’ve been really scared and frustrated. We had planned to arrived late at night, at 23:00. The transfer from the airport was good, no complaints. In the car, the driver told us that he couldn’t bring us to the door and that we had to walk at least 30 minutes. Although this was new to us, it dawned on me that the lodge was somewhat out of town, so we put on our headlights and our ponchos and off we went. No problem so far. But then it appeared that the river was really high and very rough because of the recent rainfall and we found ourselves in a very dangerous situation: navigating the rocky riverside with the water reaching our, knees, the water tugging at our legs. As I mother traveling with kids I grew more and more scared, but at some point, going back was not an option. Our contact person kept smiling our worries away. My first point of critique is that it was completely irresponsible to try to get us to the lodge; they should have said that it would be better to sleep the first night in town. When we arrived we got nice jungle tea and were able to the adrenaline out of our system as well as the leeches. The next adventure started when we climbed the hill to the bungalows: 1 bungalow completely run down, second one better but with many holes in the mosquito net and the tab falling apart in 3 pieces upon touching it. But there was only a trickle of water, so not useful anyway. So, we couldn’t freshen up, but it was l was late so we agreed to wait till the next morning. Then the generator was cut off, just when I was helping my daughter who got a leech close to her private parts. It was pitch dark and my daughter was completely upset from all the blood, while I scrambled for my phone to have a light. Upon breakfast our guy was on his phone all the time, so I reminded him to fix the water. At noon, I reminded him again.

"A must stay if going to Bukit Lawang."

Incredible eco lodge on the edge of the jungle the furthest you can stay. Best view in Bukit Lawang. Very relaxed serene place.

Nothing it was perfect. The walk there is one of the nicest I’ve ever done!

"Hidden gem! I’d love to come back there!"

10.0

It was an amazing experience. The place is surrounded by astonishing nature, and not like in Bukit Lawang centre, where all the guest houses are located one by another, with limited privacy, here you can fully enjoy being really close to nature and having cosy, calm, private space. The rooms and public spaces are comfortably and aesthetically arranged. The owner and his team are extremely supportive and helpful, and can share plenty of inspiring stories and information about the treasures of the jungle :) and ecological behaviours which prevent harming the nature. Food is super tasty and available on the spot. I highly recommend also “jungle spa”, unforgettable experience! We have seen orangutan just few hundred meters for this place. And the river is by the property so you can take a swim any moment. You need to walk there a bit from Bukit Lawang centre but for me it was just another advantage of the place, the walk is easy (you can make it in sandals/flip-flops) and through the beautiful area.

All was great and I totally recommend the place

"Hidden Gem of Bukit Lawang"

10.0

The most incredible stay to be at in Bukit Lawang. Incredible nature and view, great staff, very inspiring owner. The background of this place is so interesting and you actually support locals that want to make a positive impact on the whole area in terms of sustainable business. Enjoyed just sitting there and watching the river and jungle front so much. They're also expanding with a potential spa area, so excited to hopefully come back someday and see the place thrive!

No complaints. But be prepared for an approx. 30 minute walk from the actual village

"A gem of a place - such a special sanctuary!"

10.0

What a gem of a place and people! It is So special and the team of people are full of heart, soul and fun with smiles at the ready. You don’t need to go trekking and sleep under plastic to experience being in the jungle as you can be in amongst it at Back to Nature swimming in the river and watching for wildlife. We saw lots of Thomas’s Leaf Monkeys, silver monkeys and white handed Gibbons in the time we were there We came for 3 nights, but stayed for 5 and only reluctantly left. Noval and Yanta did everything they could and more to make our stay so memorable from cooking special meal requests, Carrying our bags on the 2km walk in from Bukit Luwang, getting medicine in the village, climbing for coconuts and paddling us out on the “jungle taxi” (tyre tubes lashed together to make a raft) and carrying our bags all the way up the 300 steps to On the Rocks. If you want a unique rustic escape away from it all and a lovely vibe with such sincere, good people and a beautiful environment this is your place! It was certainly ours and we didn’t miss anything from a more urban environment

The only preference would be for it to be smoke free but that is a big ask in Indonesia
