Wainstones Shepherd's Hut

What a beautiful and cosy shepherds hut. Well equipped with everything we needed. The hot water bottles and blankets were a lovely touch. The log burner was great! An excellent stay especially for bird watchers. We sat watching owls hunting at night and the birds feeding on the window feeder. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Lindsey and Tom couldn’t have done more for us. We will most definitely go back.

Everything was great but could do with a extractor fan in the bathroom or a window to open as got very steamed up in there

Picked the Hut because of its close proximity to the Cleveland Way. The hostess was very helpful in providing ingredients for cooking my evening meal for a modest amount. And the breakfast was excellent. The log burner was stacked with wood so all I had to do was light it; which was a big help as I'd never used a log burner before. Packed lunch was provided for a small charge. The bathroom was great. Thanks to the log burner, I managed to dry my gear. So, overall, a very cosy stay putting my feet up by the log burner in the armchair and a good night's sleep.

For what it is (a hut) and for an overnight stay very near the Cleveland Way I couldn't fault it. If I were being picky I'd say the portable heater was on the weak side, so heating the hut relied heavily on the log burner (it was an unseasonably cold day in November when I stayed). At £80 it was the second most expensive stay of my 6 night trip that included 4 hotels, the Hut and a YHA. It lacked TV and WiFi that were standard in other hotels. But it was the most memorable and clearly aimed at people who wanted a simple stay to escape aspects of modern life. I was more than happy to settle down with my book.

The host was really welcoming as we arrived, very helpful and advised us on lovely local places to eat/drink. The views were absolutely incredible, breathtaking in fact. The shepherds hut was lovely and warm on our arrival and had everything we could need for our stay.
