Hotel Casa Palopo

AVOID CASA PALOPO AT ALL COSTS! My recent experience at Lake Atitlán was dreadful. After a grueling three-hour drive, I encountered armed indigenous protests blocking the roads, creating an unsettling and scary atmosphere. When I sought help from Casa Palopo, their response was infuriating. They were aware of the ongoing issues but failed to warn or protect guests, prioritizing their financial gain. I expressed my outrage at the trauma and additional expenses, but they coldly refused reimbursement, offering an absurd “credit of the two nights I had booked to be used in a month.” It’s disgraceful that a place associated with the prestigious Relais & Chateaux brand could show such indifference to guest safety. If you’re considering Lake Atitlán, STEER CLEAR of Casa Palopo. In fact, I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST visiting Lake Atitlán altogether due to safety concerns. Casa Palopo’s attitude cast a dark shadow over my entire trip. This is my FIRST negative review, but I share it to spare others from this experience.

What I did not like, what I see on the web is not like it’s is when you get to you room…..

It’s unfair to charge the full price of a chapin breakfast when the continental breakfast is included. Charging the difference would have been just. The amount of butter served for two persons could be more generous considering your astronomic prices.

The construction noise was awful. Additionally the drive was closed so you had to climb 4 flights of stairs just to check in. I ate at the restaurant several times, but on the last night, I had very "fishy" smelling seafood risotto....and spent the rest of the night vomiting.

Beautiful and super comfortable room with lovely attention to detail and an amazing view of the lake. Friendly attentive staff on the whole. Very nice restaurant with good food

They supposedly organized a pick up for us that never showed up. We had to phone the hotel and wait for ages for one to arrive. Breakfast is incredibly mediocre given what they charge. Their iconic infinity pool is currently closed for refurbishments but they don't offer guests any discount because of this. Overall this is a beautiful hotel but just simply not worth the $400+ a night you have to pay to stay here. After staying here we stayed at nearby tzampoc resort which was half the price and just as nice (Casa Palopo maybe a tiny bit nicer overall but no way worth an extra $200). This would be a 9* review if it wasn't so overpriced
