The Morritt Hotel

We stayed two nights a week apart. Our first stay was excellent, the second stay not so good. The breakfasts were very good. The location is useful for visits to Richmond and Barnard Castle. On the whole the hotel is well run and comfortable.

Our second stay for one night was not so good. Room 26 did smell of dogs. The bed mattress was lumpy. The carpet needs a good clean or replacing. The curtain tie backs were either missing or had holes in the wall. The whole room needs repainting.The bathroom was clean and the staff as usual very good.

Lovely old building. Kettle & tea/coffee in bedroom. Comfy bed. Helpful staff. I did not book breakfast. Delicious bar meal. Lovely gardens, with trees and flowers. When weather permits meals can be served in gardens. I intend to stay again.

I have nothing negative to say.

Location was good, lounge and dining room were very nice and bedroom/ bathroom were large. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

We had our small dog with us so couldn’t use the dining room and had to eat our meals either in the bar, which was very busy with locals and not conducive to a pleasant meal or in a very drab small room next to the bar. Although the hotel states it is dog friendly, and in some aspects is, this felt quite the opposite! The menu available was limited due to an issue with the chef and our meal was not of the expected standard. Our room though spacious was lacking in a good clean, black mould around the windows and in the shower, debris under the bed, broken floor tiles in the bathroom, the list goes on. Then on the second morning no housekeeping to replace tea/ coffee etc which I found strange for a 4 star hotel. In general the hotel has a lot of potential but it needs some TLC to put things right, with someone at the top paying more attention to detail!

Room was filthy. Receptionist had to come up and re clean it her self the room on the top floor was old tatty and dirty

Excellent position. Old coaching inn & well placed when travelling N/S or E/W. Comfortable beds & adequate rooms. Staff helpful, well trained & friendly.

Rang 3x to try to book dinner table. No reply or response. All fine tho when we arrived & excellent meal.

Faulty lighting in the restaurant

The room was comfortable and clean - no issues with it. Facilities in the room were good with nice tea making facilities, good shower and plug points with USB to charge your phone.

The restaurant was pretty good. My evening meal of chicken curry was OK, but nothing exceptional. Breakfast was good with self service of cold fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc and waitress service of cooked breakfast. The waitress even provided me a box to take some fruit and a sausage sandwich away for lunch.
