"Splendid hotel in need of redecoration"

8.0

Character building in a lovely setting, nice garden. Easy parking. Pleasant staff. Comfy clean room. Inexpensive. Evening meal and breakfast were fine.

Building interior decor was generally tired. There seemed to be little noise insulation from the corridor and adjacent rooms.

"Beware, definitely not a 4*, more like 2* and very tired, Shabby and dirty"

1.0

Location

Room was dirty and very tired and worn, I found both rubbish in one bedside draw and old food that had been had consumed by a previous customer in the bedside draw on the other side of the bed. Another concerning issue is the fact that while their menu indicates they provide both full meals and lite bites only when I tried to order a lite bite as I had had a large lunch on during my 270 mile drive to the Morritt I was informed those are only available if ordering room service (at a charge of £5), the menus itself makes no reference to this restriction on the lighter bites. Given used food, rubbish and the dirty and very worn and tired state of the room I was uncomfortable with being forced to consume a meal there asI did not want a full restaurant meal. As a result of this position on the part of the Morritt i wa s forced to get back it my car a drive t Barnard Castle itself to find some food. It makes no sense that the Hotel forces customers to either have a full meal or pay a £5 surcharge for a liter bite. I will give the staff member on reception credit as she did offer to cme and clean the room when I reported the issue, however as I was only staying for one night and had already driven 270 miles I declined. The hotel is marketed as a 4* hotel and is at best 3* although I feel that is being generous. I have since seen a number of reviews which have also commented on how shabby this hotel is and I have seen responses from the Hotel to the fact that they do not market themselves as a 4* hotel , however the major online booing sites all appear to have them as a 4* hotel, and they will be using data form GIATA which standardizes information on Hotel ratings globally ,and in my experience across both the UK and internationally the star ratign s are normally pretty accurate. If the hotel do not consider themselves to be a 4* establishment then they should proactively have GIAT update their data rather than allowing customers to effectively be misled.

"Good hotel in beautiful setting!"

9.0

The hotel was in a beautiful setting, the drinks were an OK price. Free WiFi was great. The bath in the room was massive and the water got insanely hot! The cooked breakfast was really good too.

Taxis into barnard castle needed to be prebooked really. Uber did pick us up, but every driver told us it was odd. The plug in the bath needed some work as it wouldnt come out by itself, but ultimately that was all fine too.

"A nice location with friendly staff. A limited menu for an evening meal."

6.0

The public rooms were very pleasant and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good but, although we were offered the restaurant menu to browse on our arrival, we were only able to choose from the bar menu despite dining in the restaurant.

The bedroom was ok but there was a lot of mould in the shower enclosure. Regular use of bleach during the bathroom clean would have cured the mould issues.
