Surf Shack Grupuk

The surf shacks really do have a cute interior design (looks exactly like the pictures) and they do give you nice privacy with your own bathroom in a free standing hut. Considering the price per night, this really is a great deal, including the sweet, friendly staff and daily room cleaning and free drinking water. It also very conveniently placed in Grupuk which is where lots of the surf schools are located. The hosts were also very helpful organizing transfer from the airport, rental of a scooter and laundry services - which was much appreciated.

Unfortunately, there was a lot of stuff that went wrong during my stay. The electricity went out (which is probably something happening in the whole village, so maybe not the fault of the surf shacks), the warm water went out and then later the water went out completely. Also I had mice in the apartment which the staff then got rid off. They did offer me a discount for staying without warm water and also the option to cancel my booking mid way and look for a different place. I really appreciate all the effort they put into solving the problems but unfortunately it did take away from your relaxation of the vacation. Also be aware that the neighborhood dogs will tear up everything that is placed outside of your room door. Including shoes, laundry hung up to dry and also the furniture of the surf shack. Also my shack did not have any grass in the outside area like the pictures suggest, rather there was just slap with moss on it. This did look less inviting to relax outside than in the pictures and could be easily improved with maybe some sand or nice floor tiles.

Spacious, clean room with everything you need. Location is very good and very quit. The view on the bay is amazing.

The last night we arrived home the power was down. So we didn't have light to pack our bags and the AC was not working all night. It was an issue in Gerupuk, not of the hotel. Can get busy in the morning as surfschools unload there students at the the surf shack property to take them to the break.

Sunrise, moonrise, everything here was perfect!

Such a nice relaxing place, hammock was really nice to sit in. Also can get a boat from your literal front door out to all of the nearby surf spots for about 150-200k (not the cheapest but oh well). Location is a bit out of the way but with a moped or taxi it’s fine - we did struggle a bit to get a taxi into kuta for dinner in evenings but that was just us.

The room is very cute and cozy decorated, and spacious, which is nice. The view is stunning as well!
